🩵 Sunday Gratitude
I've been reflecting on this week in The Lab. And I just want to say: I see you. The stylists who showed up here even when you were exhausted. The mums who squeezed in scalp care between bedtime routines. The practitioners who asked hard questions and challenged what you were taught. The clients who stayed consistent even when progress felt invisible. You're not just "trying to grow hair." You're choosing to understand your body. You're trusting a process that's slower than you'd like. You're giving yourself permission to matter. That's the real work. This week I learned FROM you: → About conditions I'd never encountered (HS, chronic inflammation) → About the reality of being depleted while trying to serve others → About the courage it takes to be vulnerable in community You teach me as much as I teach you. And that's what makes this space different. As we close out this week: Take a moment to acknowledge ONE thing you did for yourself. Even if it feels small. Even if it didn't go perfectly. You showed up. That counts. Rest well tonight. 🔬🤍

🤍 FRIDAY GRATITUDE
Just want to say: I see you. The stylists who are finally prioritizing their own hair after years of neglecting it. The mums who are squeezing in scalp massages between bedtime routines. The practitioners who are asking hard questions and challenging what they were taught. The clients who are showing up consistently even when progress feels slow. You're not just "trying to grow hair." You're choosing to understand your body. To trust the process. To give yourself what you deserve. That's the real work. And I'm grateful to be building this with you. 🔬🤍 Have a restful weekend. You've earned it.

🤍 FRIDAY GRATITUDE
Welcome to The Scalp Science Lab: Access Granted 🔬
I’ve always loved hair. As a hairdresser and makeup artist, I spent years making people feel beautiful. But over time, I saw something a style or a product couldn’t fix. I saw clients losing their hair. Family members struggling. People I cared about—especially those with textured hair—asking for help. And the industry had nothing to offer but surface-level "band-aids." “Try this oil.” “Avoid heat.” “Maybe it’s stress.” I realised that for textured hair (curly, wavy, coily), advice was based on marketing, not mechanics. It ignored Fibre Physics and Biomechanical Integrity. That’s why I became a Trichology Practitioner. I didn't stop loving hair—I wanted to master the science behind it. Currently, I am deep into Anatomy, Physiology, and Pathology because hair health is a systemic story involving your gut, your hormones, and your immune system. The Core Protocol: Assessment Before Action Most people don’t have a hair problem. They have a strategy problem. You’ve been taught to buy routines, but you haven’t been taught how your hair actually functions. Inside The Scalp Science Lab, we move beyond the surface: • Biomechanical Geometry: Understanding curls as structural features, not just categories. • Fiber Physics: How porosity, elasticity, and stiffness dictate your hair’s survival. • The Systemic Link: How your internal health (gut/hormones) speaks through your scalp. • The Clinical Audit: Learning to read biological patterns instead of reacting to today's dryness. 🚀 YOUR FIRST LAB MISSION To begin your assessment, please complete these 3 steps: Step 1: Introduce Your Subject In the comments, tell us: 1. What brought you to the Lab? 2. What is the one thing about your hair or scalp you most want to diagnose? Step 2: Access Your Diagnostic Tool Go to the [Classroom Tab] and download the Scalp pH Calibration Sheet. This is your first step in moving from "product-pushing" to clinical science. Step 3: Review the "Physics vs. Marketing" Briefing Check the pinned post to understand why your current routine might be working against your scalp's natural biology.

Hi @Chanel Gresham! Welcome to The Lab. So glad you're here! 👋 15 years as a natural hairstylist educating women on hair and scalp care is GOLD. That hands-on experience, that pattern recognition, that trust you've built with clients. That’s the foundation. And the fact that you're still learning, still growing? That's the mindset that separates educators from influencers. **Re: Your current shedding + blood pressure meds:** I hear you connecting the dots between your shedding and your BP medication. That's absolutely worth investigating. Certain medications CAN affect the hair cycle and it's important to explore that with your doctor(specifically someone who understands or specialises in hair care, scalp disorders and hair loss). **Here's what I recommend:** **1. Get a full assessment from your doctor:** - Let them know about the shedding and when it started (timeline matters) - Ask if your specific BP medication could be a contributing factor - Request blood work if you haven't had it recently: - Ferritin (should be 70+ for optimal hair growth, not just "normal range") - Thyroid panel (TSH, Free T3, Free T4) - Vitamin D - Complete blood count (CBC) - Ask: "If the medication is a factor, are there alternative BP meds with less hair impact?" **Why this matters:** Shedding can have multiple causes (medications, thyroid, iron deficiency, hormonal shifts, stress, etc.). It's important to rule out other factors, not just assume it's one thing. **Don't stop your BP medication without medical guidance - blood pressure control is critical.** But you CAN advocate for yourself and ask for alternatives if the med is implicated. **2. While you're investigating the medical side, optimize what you CAN control:** Even if medication is a factor, optimizing your scalp, nutrition, and hair care can make a significant difference. **The Engine (scalp):** - pH balance (most products disrupt your acid mantle - aim for 4.5-5.5) - Improve circulation (tight scalp = restricted blood flow to follicles)

@Chanel Gresham! This is exactly why the internal external connection matters so much. Your hair literally told you that synthetic estrogen wasn’t right for your body - “hair on the floor” is a clear signal. I’m so glad you listened and found holistic sources instead. That takes courage when a doctor is pushing conventional treatment. Post-hysterectomy + menopause is a huge hormonal shift. Vitamin D, hormone balance, nutrient levels all of it shows up in your hair and scalp. Blood work will give you the baseline so you know exactly what you’re working with. And yes, vitamin D deficiency affects SO much more than hair (bone health, immune function, mood, inflammation). Getting that right supports your whole system. Thank you for sharing this. Your experience will help other women in the community who are navigating similar transitions and wondering why their hair changed. You’re doing the work. Holistic sources, blood work, connecting the dots. That’s exactly the approach. 🩵🌱
☀️ MONDAY REMINDER
You don't need to have it all figured out today. You don't need to know every answer. You just need to show up. Assess. Learn. Adjust. Repeat. That's how real progress happens. Not in one big leap. In small, consistent steps. Let's go. 🔬🤍

Locs consultation
A loc consultation is a professional assessment session with a loctician, typically lasting 15–60 minutes, to evaluate hair texture, density, and health before starting, extending, or maintaining locs. It involves discussing your, lifestyle, and hair history (chemical, color, damage) to create a tailored, successful loc journey, including planning for size and methods

This is great! Loc consultations are so important. Most people start locs without understanding the commitment or the scalp health foundation required. Love that you assess texture, density and health BEFORE starting. That’s proper assessment-before-action. Question for you (and the community): What are the most common scalp issues you see in clients who come to you wanting to start or maintain locs? And how do you address them differently than you would for loose natural hair? Would love to hear your practitioner perspective on this!

Your hair grows but won’t retain length? You need a scalp strategy based on YOUR biology - not generic products. Let’s investigate. 🔬
