Palecek San Francisco Showroom Basket Light Fixtures
I was in San Francisco last week and visited the Palecek showroom in the San Francisco Design Center. Palecek is a high-end furniture maker incorporating a lot of natural fibers and weaving into their designs. I was very fortunate to be gifted one of their baskets a couple of years ago. I thought of you all and took a few photos I thought you’d enjoy. Note the weaving on the chairs in the background of the first photo. I have long wanted to weave a lampshade but I am particularly inspired by the table lamp body it reminds me a bit of a pineapple ($2,639!). Also, I’d like to learn more about the “random weaving” technique (I think that’s what it is called) shown in several of the lampshades. Has anyone made a light fixture?

@Cheri Bywater Thanks for this. It seems that weaving a lampshade is a rite of passage for basket weavers. Brittany’s perseverance paid off in a lovely and on-of-a-kind lighting fixture!
Double Walled basket
I am so excited, I did my first double walled basket! I thought it was too advanced for me, but I gave it a shot and it wasn’t too bad. A little tricky in the beginning keeping track of which reeds I was weaving. Pictures show progression from inside basket to completed basket.

@Jessie Foster thank you for introducing me to this style of basket. I didn’t know it existed. I certainly have no idea how to make one. Something new to research. So beautiful!

@Jessie Foster Thanks so much for this video! I am waiting for a bench I bought to arrive. It’s for a mud room area in my house. It has 4 cubbies underneath and this sturdy and beautiful basket would be ideal for cubby storage. Once that arrives and I get some cane, I’m going to give this a try!
What's Cooking?
I've dyed! Ha!🤣 RIT dye Teal on 3/16 flat oval. Reminiscent of tropical seas ... reed is currently cooling after a few hours simmering. I'll give an update after drying.

@Anesha Knight Pretty! I can’t wait to see how your reed turns out.
The Adirondack Pack Basket
Putting this here to give me a push to start on my Adirondack pack basket. These aren’t mine, they are pics from a seasoned weaver (Jill Choate). I have her pattern kit for one of these packs in orange, purple and teal. Will keep you posted. I’m nervous.

@Anita Veyera I admire your tenacity. From what I can see in your photos, your pack looks like it’s coming along nicely, keep going!
Harvest Basket
Tried my hand at another rib basket. Used a piece of bittersweet vine as the rim, seagrass and 1/4” flat reed for weavers. It was fun to let the basket evolve to what it wanted to be and not try to force a shape.
