Have you ever heard of the concept of interiority? Interiority is the inside life of the POV character — their thoughts, reflections, and feelings that don’t always make it into dialogue or action. It is the ability to look directly into a character’s head and heart. Through interiority we learn several things: What they’re really feeling? Why they make the choices they do... How their private thoughts differ from their outward actions. The fun of interiority is that it gives the reader access to what no one else in the story can see. It creates empathy, tension, and depth. Remember: interiority isn’t only inner monologue. It can also show up in the body — sweaty palms, a racing heartbeat, or the way a character feels the weight of silence. Try to respond to at least one more prompt about a person by the close of the weekend. And don’t just tell what your character does. Let us in on what they think and feel in the moment. Lord, we thank You for giving us the gift of words. Thank You for every story, every idea, and every lesson You’ve placed in our hearts. Today we ask for focus, courage, and discipline as we show up to the page. Remind us that writing is not just about polish or perfection — it’s about being faithful to release what You’ve given us. As I awoke barely opening my eyes my nose reminded me I am home, in my mom’s home to be exact. As I put on my robe I realize I need to hurry or my very hungry brothers will devour the fixings. After I was my face and brush my teeth I am ready to head downstairs. Each step leads me closer until my nostrils are on high alert. The aroma of the smell of the smoky, salty with a pinch of sweetness from the bacon has mixed with the overall buttery scent of the biscuits combined with the earthy hint of corn from the grits meant Mom had been up for a while. The scrambled eggs just smelled eggy but the Swiss cheese my brother likes on his eggs has overtaken that dish. Orange lingers in the air from the fresh squeezed juice Mom lovingly prepared is on the table and I am home. Loved and protected at home and I would have it no other way.

I didn’t think I had much to say as a writer, but being in the Literary Lounge has sharpened me. These daily prompts push me to notice things I would’ve skipped over before — a doorknob, a window, a bit of light. Writing them down makes me see how even small details can turn into a story. What’s surprised me the most is how it’s created a real desire in me to write more. I find myself looking forward to the next prompt, and even thinking about scenes on my own. The Lounge gives me a place to try, to stretch, and to grow without feeling judged. I may be a beginner, but I feel like I belong here.
