617k base pairs is massive for a virus! The fact that it stays dormant and reactivates later reminds me of latent viral infections in higher organisms. Really interesting parallel.
Are "Junk DNA" really junk?
💡 Only 2% of our DNA codes for proteins... That leaves 98% of our genome—long dismissed as “junk.” But if evolution truly removes useless baggage, why would life carry around such a massive load of DNA?

@Ken Parrott Yesss exactly! It’s like our DNA is carrying a hidden diary of everything our lineage has been through. Those so called ‘junk’ codes are more like little memory notes from the past like viral traces, epigenetic shifts, survival tricks, all passed forward. It’s wild how science is only now realizing it’s not useless at all, just a deeper language we’re still learning to read. ✨

Hey everyone!! 👋🏻 I’m Syeda Simrah, a high school student who’s super curious about science. I don’t really have one favorite subject, but I’d say biology interests me the most 🧬. My dream is to become a doctor one day 🥼, and I’m really hoping to learn new things here and get advice from seniors whenever I need it. Glad to be part of this community!😊✨
