I'm going to design a house for you - What do you want to see?
Hey guys, I had an idea for a new video where I'm going to record the screen of me designing a cob/natural home for you so you can see the process I go through. I want to hear some of your thoughts on what you'd like to see in a house design? - Size/square footage - Shape/rooms needed - Style - What climate it will be for? - Materials (timberframe, cob, hemp, etc) Let me know in the comments. Thanks!

@Alex Sumerall I really like the rammed earth wall you build for your shower. I have an interior wall that is by code a fire stop wall. It is 2x6 framing with each side 3/4” plywood. I was wondering if a thin rammed earth wall could be made on one of the plywood faces. It would mean that only the beautiful look would be visible on the inside of the room. Is this something that could be built?

Alex, this is gorgeous. And thank you for the clear instructions and accompanying photos. 👏
One of my online students built this Cob House!
I've actually never shared these before, but one of my online students from a few years ago built her own beautiful cob house in Sri Lanka. She did an amazing job! What do you think?

It’s lovely. The roof has interesting color tones that go well with the cob work. I can’t tell if the roof is clay tiles or metal. What is it made of and how were those colours achieved?
Preview - How I built the rammed earth outdoor shower wall.
Here's a preview video. I'll be putting together a full video with design, progress photos, and instruction soon. This is footage Tal took at last year's April workshop where we did the rammed earth mixing and tamping.

It is beautiful Alex!
Rammed Earth Shower 🚿 progress being made!
Yesterday, I poured the floor on my new rammed earth outdoor shower. I'm happy to say, this luxurious shower will be available for workshop students starting in April! Yesterday, I also received the 2000 bricks that I'll be using to construct the stem wall for the massive cob wall we'll be constructing at our upcoming hands-on workshops. Check out the class schedule here: https://www.thiscobhouse.com/cob-workshops/ What do you think of the new shower so far?

@Alex Sumerall I am planning on staining our shower floor (polished concrete) with copper sulphate, ferrous sulphate and coffee and then sealing it. I don’t want to use tile because of the potential slip factor (we are senior citizens and while building keeps us healthy, we are not getting any younger). The cement floor is the same height as the bedroom cob floors allowing us to use a wheelchair. Love to hear if slipping is something you have addressed in the selection of the tiles.
