Identifying and Healing the Freeze Response
Of the trauma responses - fight, flight, freeze, collapse, to me freeze is vexing because you can be in a functional freeze and still go on with life. It just robs you of all joy. Here's an article on identifying and overcoming the freeze response from Elephant Journal. I think the author's example is really her dissociating, but there's a freeze element to it too. https://elejrnl.com?p=4229195

In my training with Dr. Bruce Perry, he really emphasizes the dissociative continuum on the low end of the continuum is healthy moments of dissociation and on the high end is a total freeze and fainting. The article is interesting and it can be so empowering to understand the physiology of stress. Somatics expands on the physiology to understand how these survival responses live in our tissue. Muscle memory and that is why practice can help create more choice under pressure.
