Claude Opus 4.8 Explained Simply: New Features and What They Mean for You
Claude Opus 4.8 is Anthropic's newest AI model, released on May 28, 2026. If you have seen the name and wondered what actually changed, and whether it matters for you, here is the plain English version. Just what Claude Opus 4.8 does, and why it is a real step up, especially if you use Claude Code to build and to think. 📌 THE SHORT VERSION • It can take on a real task and see it through on its own, so you can hand work off and walk away. • It is far more honest about its own work, which matters most if you do not check code yourself. • You can now dial how hard it thinks, from quick answers to deep reasoning. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🤝 THE HANDOFF: GIVE IT REAL WORK, THEN WALK AWAY The headline for Claude Opus 4.8 is what people are calling the handoff. Inside Claude Code, Anthropic says it makes calls like an experienced engineer, without needing you to check in constantly. You can hand it a real job, like cleaning up a file or sweeping through your notes, and it stays on track across a long session while you focus on something else. Think of it less like a tool you operate button by button, and more like a capable teammate you can trust with a task. 🙂 IT IS MORE HONEST WITH YOU This is the part that matters most if you do not write code yourself. The old worry was always "how do I know it got this right?" Claude Opus 4.8 is much better at telling you the truth about its own work. It catches its own mistakes and pushes back when your plan is shaky. Anthropic says it is about four times less likely than Opus 4.7 to let a flaw in its own work slip by quietly, and it is the first version of Claude that will not simply sign off on a broken result. One of their own engineers put it like this: 💬 "It asks the right questions, catches its own mistakes, pushes back when a plan isn't sound." 🎚️ DIAL HOW HARD IT THINKS Claude Opus 4.8 adds a simple effort setting. Turn it up when the problem is big and you want deep thinking. Turn it down when you just want a fast answer. If you use Claude to think and not only to type, this is a quiet but real gift, because you decide the depth.

Welcome to Agent Skills Academy. Here's where to start.
1. Introduce yourself in the Introduce yourself, I'll reply to every single one. 2. The Foundation course launched — 29 lessons on SKILL.md, the file Anthropic built for non-coders to give Claude plain-English instructions. Until then, your questions shape the curriculum. 3. Share a win in 🎉 Wins & Results. Small counts. "I installed Claude Code" is a win. 4. Ask one thing in ❓ Ask Pragati. What recurring task in your week would you automate first? 5. Post your work. Ask questions. Help others when you can. Founding-50 advantage: you joined before the Foundation launched. When Premium opens (around Week 5-7), the first 50 members get a permanent $27 a month rate locked forever (vs $47 a month standard). What do you want to build first with Cluade Code Skills?

That sounds interesting @Dave S !! Curious about the usage of Perplexity for PRD. How are you using it? I've been doing PRD-style docs through Claude Code but haven't tried Perplexity for that. Does it handle the research + structure in one pass?
@Dave S Interesting, wouldn't Claude do the same if the skill.md instructed it to pause and ask before moving forward? You can build that behavior in - like stop after the first draft, ask which sections to go deeper on, check sources before continuing - socratic dialogue. What I'm hearing from your response is that Perp does this organically. While Claude gives you the control to design it yourself - but you have to design it. Is that the difference you're seeing?
