The secret to getting what you really want
The year was 1990. In Tokyo, Japan… Boxer Mike Tyson was the undefeated, undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. He was incredible. Invincible. Considered unbeatable. And his opponent? Buster Douglas. A 42 to 1 underdog. That’s long odds. And rightly so… Because Buster Douglas was a bum. He was a nobody with no chance of winning. Just some punching bag and a payday for Tyson before he took on the next real contender. *ding ding* Round 1 and Tyson comes out with fists of fury blazing. As expected… Tyson smashed up Douglas. Douglas went down. And everyone thought the fight was over. But Douglas got up. *ding ding* Round 2. Douglas is knocked down again. But he gets up again. *ding ding* Round 3. The same thing happens. Again. And again. Tyson keeps knocking down Douglas but Douglas keeps getting up! Now it’s Round 5. Nobody has taken Tyson beyond round 5 before. The crowd started rooting for Douglas. He’s still getting knocked down, round after round… But he keeps getting up. By this time… Tyson is getting tired. He wasn’t used to such a long, gruelling fight. *Ding Ding* Now it's Round 10. And the unbelievable happens. Douglas catches Tyson with an uppercut… He follows up with a flurry of punches… And knocks Tyson out. It’s still one of the biggest sporting upsets in history. Now… Here’s the crazy part: 23 days before the fight Buster’s mum died of cancer. He was distraught. Combined with the fact he was at the end of his career… And he realised he had… Nothing Left To Lose. So he kept getting up. Again and again. With me? Because the point I’m trying to make is: The most dangerous person in any game is the person who plays and has nothing to lose. And I’m not just talking about sport :-) The things that stop you getting the coaching clients and the lifestyle you really want… Like procrastination. Self doubt. Overwhelm? Forget all that. And realise this: What have you got to lose? Really? And what would happen if you started to play the game like the person who has got nothing to lose… and could only gain?

What that boxing story doesn't tell us is why he kept getting up. It was because he made a promise to his Mum that he would beat Ironman Mike, and he wasn't going to let her down. His reason why was big enough to enable him to keep on keeping on
