3 contributions to Secrets of SSI/SSDI & Work
SSI & Work
While the example doc you provided is generally Ok, I'd like to humbly point out to you that you omitted at least one other work incentive: IRWE. In my 10 years as a CWIC, while most SSI-only clients may not claim any IRWE, it is unsafe to assume that for everyone. Therefore, this crucial work incentive should be included in the calculation. Also, there are other scenarios in which other work incentives should be applied. For instance, if the client is a student under the age of 22, the SEIE must absolutely be applied; for clients who meet SSA's requirements for blindness, the BWE needs to be applied; thirdly, PASS expenses need to be included in the calculation. And last but not least, if an individual is self-employed, Net Income is used rather than Gross Income. And then any approved business expenses should obviously be included. I found it to be much simpler to utilize one calculation sheet that includes all the potential work incentives rather than have separate sheets for customized clients. In the spirit of Christ (and Skool), this insight is not intended to embarrass, insult or shame you, but rather to help and support you. I hope you understand and accept my motives. P.S. I read the disclaimer on the bottom of the doc, however, someone without any knowledge of those other factors, may not know how to apply them. Therefore, my recommendation to list ALL potential work incentives still remains. Thanks for the work you are doing.
