SOTD: MYSLF L'Absolu by Yves Saint Laurent #NoBuySept 26/09/2025
A brand-new release for this year, MYSLF L'Absolu is a Spicey/Woody Scent from perfumer Christophe Raynaud. That’s the guy responsible for the JPG Scandal line. This is the third addition to the YSL line following the original 2023 EDP and 2024’s Le Parfum. A more intense and spiced version of the original. Even the bottle is the same although the shiny polished finish makes it a smudge collector. It’s a beautifully crafted scent, I have noticed that it does leave an oily film on the back of my hand when testing. So I’m assuming there is a fairly higher than normal concentration here! The opening is the most noticeable departure from the original. It features a prominent and invigorating blend of ginger & cardamom, which adds a fresh, spicy & slightly quality. This is balanced by a hint of bergamot, carrying over the clean, citrusy feel of the original. At the heart, the signature orange blossom note from the MYSLF line is magnified. YSL claim too source this from their Ourika Community Gardens in Morocco. This note provides a clean, floral, and almost soapy or "fabric softener" like quality although I would suggest this is more to do with the Ambrofix that is lurking in the base notes. The dry-down is anchored by a generous overdose of patchouli, which is not overly earthy or dirty; instead, it's more of a "suave," warm, & sensual woodiness that provides a solid foundation for the scent. I’m also picking up Lavandin in the dry down. This is probably my favourite from YSL too date, although in fairness, this is only my third bottle. Performance is stellar with an easy 8 hrs on my skin, it projects for just under 3 at arm’s length before becoming a skin scent. But this comes at a premium. A 100ml bottle at my local will set you back €155. They did through in a gorgeous leather YSL branded toiletries bag and a 7.5ml travel splash bottle to sample which was nice, but we aint chasing bag collections here, it’s the juice that counts. My Rating: 8/10 Scent: 2.5 Longevity: 2.5

Great review, thanks for the share Edward. Love this scent!
SOTD/Review: Hugo Boss The Scent Elixir (Sample)
This opens sharply with red pepper, delivering a warm, spicy punch that immediately grabs your attention. The heart blooms into lavender, softening the heat and adding an aromatic calm before the base settles into a rich sandalwood foundation that gives creamy warmth and depth. Projection is very strong early on me - noticeable at arm’s length for the first few hours - with sillage that trails nicely in that top phase. Longevity is solid, I got around 10-12 hours total wear. It’s definitely built for cooler weather or nights out, a strong bold fragrance. Overall rating: 6.4/10. I rate this score because even though it’s not a bad scent, has nice elements to it but it’s much too strong for the type of scents I like, I just couldn’t see me wearing this due to its potency, so unlikely be purchasing a full bottle. I have samples of The Scent Magnetic and Boss Bottled Absolu to review next and I have a feeling they will be similar to this in regards to potency but we’ll see.

@Edward Mooney you will most probably like it Edward, some of your reviews I’ve read previous to some strong scents that you enjoy would fit this bill so I can see you liking this. Sample it first if you unsure but I think you’ll like it personally. It’s not a bad scent by no means, if it was much lighter I’d be more for me but as it’s quite strong, it’s a bit too much for me.

@Edward Mooney if you like the strength of boss bottled absolu then this will be up your alley as it’s just as strong I’d say. I have smelled absolu before but I want a second opinion so bought another sample.
SOTD/Review: Khadlaj Island Dreams (Sample)
This opens bright with bergamot and ginger, giving a sharp citrus-spice kick, then mellows into juicy grapefruit in the heart. The base is clean and smooth, built around musk and ambroxan, which keep the composition fresh yet slightly sensual. In terms of performance, it projects reasonably well for the first 1-2 hours, then settles into a softer, close-to-skin aura. Longevity on my skin was 6-9 hours. It’s a well-crafted, pleasant fragrance - vibrant and wearable, especially in warm weather or casual settings. Overall rating: 8.3/10, to me at first spray it felt like I got French Avenue Pinnace vibes (which is a supposed dupe of LV Pacific Chill), that citrus blend off first spray gave me that impression. Would I buy full bottle? Yes I would, but will probably wait until next spring/summer now as more interested in autumn/winters scents right now.

@Ben Stijnen it’s supposed to be a LV symphony dupe but to me if you own or have smelled French Avenue Pinnace (see pic) it smells identical to that and THAT is supposed to be a Pacific Chill dupe 🤷‍♂️ To be honest it has Jimmy Choo Man Ice vibes too.

@Edward Mooney yes I come across it in sample form so gave it a go. I’m more after autumn winter now of course but I’m preparing for next spring summer too so I will have an idea what I want and by then hopefully the prices will have dropped too.
SOTD & Review: Spicebomb Metallic Musk by Viktor & Rolf
Today I am wearing Metallic Musk and it is my 3rd day of testing. Shout out to @Nick Clemente for sending me a sample of this fragrance. The opening is a subtle blast of fresh spice which is accompanied by some citric sweetness. At 15 minutes the fragrance settles down quite nicely while still delivering some semi-sweet yet subtle spiciness. I also started to get some of the softness from the Lavender which is quite nice. At 30 minutes the fragrance continues to settle down and provide the same semi-sweet, spicy, and soft scent. It's pretty lineal at this point, but well blended and wears quite nice ointment my skin. The dry down of this fragrance is quite subtle which impacts the performance. The longevity on my skin is about 4 to 5 hours with the fragrance becoming a skin scent after about 2 hours. Projection is amazing for about the first 60 minutes, but after that it sttles down to a scent bubble of about 12". The sillage is also great for the first 60 minutes, but settles down signifgicantly after that. This is a compliment magnet, but only when someone is close enough to smell you.

Quite possibly my purchase of the year, will see if it can be toppled between now and end of the year, such a beautiful scent!

For me it’s between DavidOff Cool Elixir and Dolce & Gabbana Devotion Pour Homme, both are disgusting!
