SOTD: 212 VIP Black edp by Carolina Herrera 06/02/2026
This rather enjoyable number from Carolina Herrera was released in 2017 & created by perfumers Carlos Benaïm & Anne Flipo. It's my first from this house & was a total blind buy, that I picked up in Superdrug for a bargain €34. It's an Aromatic Amber Wood scent that I really enjoy, my only issue is that I didn't get a bigger bottle. In the opening, the absinthe note, combined with anise & fennel, provide a noticeable aromatic & slightly boozy, spicy-licorice quality. At its heart, Lavender provides a clean, aromatic & smooth contrast to the fierce opening, adding a touch of classic masculine sophistication. It's not listed but I get a subtle whiff of a leather note at times in the air. Lastly the base notes. It dries down into a lovely Black Vanilla Husk & Musk. The vanilla and dark musk create a smooth, sweet, comforting foundation that lingers on the skin This is one of those blind buys that really paid off. It's clean, but also dark & modern. A spicy fragrance that's perfect for nightlife, clubbing & parties. I'm getting almost 7 hrs on skin with good projection for the first few hours. I'll no doubt be replacing this for a larger bottle soon enough. My Rating: 7.5/10 Scent: 2.5 Longevity: 2 Sillage: 2 Y/N: 1

@Srinesh C m it’s been non stop here where I am too, typical British weather, 10 months of year it’s just rain, a month and a half is just plain and the other half is sun.

Went with this today - a dark, slightly sweet aromatic scent that opens with a boozy absinthe note and a sharp anise/fennel edge. It quickly smooths out into a creamy lavender-vanilla base that feels warm, modern, and club-friendly. The vibe is playful and seductive rather than classy or refined, perfect for cool evenings, with a good performance for me and received a couple compliments to boot.

First Impressions: Purple Melancholia
Finally found a bottle in a store so gave it 1 spray on the wrist. Opens up like a coconut leaning Gris Charnel with a clear designer level quality and mass appeal. Creamy, cosy, nicely sweet and very wearable. Projects strong for a Valentino. Quality is good and the blend is clean, but nothing here feels groundbreaking. The closest market competitor for this would be Le Beau Le Parfum and to me PM is a dumbed down vibe, similar crowd pleasing DNA, and LBLP still comes out on top in terms of character and overall profile. I would argue that this would be a massive hit in the mainstream. Its more smooth and more wearable tha LBLP and 25 and above usually avoid jpg as its a “teen fragrance“. My prediction maybe wrong but many of us weren’t impressed with paradigme but the numbers dont lie. So the hype to me was not justified. My initial score would be a 7.5/10. If i get a sample from a purchase i might give it a proper wearing.

It does give JPG LBLP vibes but not as sweet. The coconut was prominent throughout but smooth with it. Far from my favourite in the line but it is nice

@Srinesh C m it’s in the middle of my Valentino list at moment but for me, it’s more summer scent with the coconut inclusion but can obviously be used at different times. I’m hoping it picks up in time too as love the Valentino line.
Another Level 9
