A Simple Posture Check (1 Minute)
Here’s a short, one-minute posture check you can try today. This isn’t a full lesson - just a small introduction to how we approach alignment in traditional Tai Chi. Try it once or twice, without forcing anything. Five minutes of gentle awareness is enough. Full lessons begin in February.

A Simple Posture Check (1 Minute)
1 minute awareness exercise
This is an exercise that requires no previous knowledge of any tai chi forms or Qi gong practice. Simply stand or sit comfortably. Breathing through the nose, take three to five deep slow relaxed breaths, and just notice where the body holds tension, don't try to change it, just become aware of it, that awareness is already a great start to learning Tai chi. What did you notice?

@Gemma Nowicka Thank you for trying it again, even though the first time didn’t highlight anything for you. It shows how working physically with our bodies, while very beneficial for general fitness, can also gradually create patterns of tension if we don’t take time to notice and untangle them.

@Andrea Bowers This is possible the most common reason many people take up tai chi. With gentle practice each day you will notice improvement in your mobility.

@Matt Iles Thank you for sharing. That is an interesting Tai chi history you have. I know what you mean by Tai chi finding you. For me, it wasn't something that I went in serch for, it first showed itself to me on TV one evening over a friend's house, then, the same evening an invitation arrose to go and try it out. "What a strange coincidence" I thought, so I went along to give it a go. In doing so I expericened something I had never experienced before, I kept returning to try and find that same feeling. In pursuit of this feeling it seemed the more I chased it, the further away it became, when I stoped searching for it, it showed up in abundance. Once having it back, I would try to desperately obtain more of it, and on that quest for more it, it would eluded me, the feeling would be gone again. This cycle would continue for many years. until I learnt to just simply observe. The the more we can observe our experiences without expectation the deeper and richer the experiences become. I believe this is a lesson for life, not just Tai chi.
What to Expect in February
From February, I’ll begin posting structured Tai Chi lessons here. Each lesson will: - Be short and focused - Build gradually over time - Emphasise traditional martial principles - Be suitable for complete beginners - You’ll be encouraged to practise a little, often, rather than doing everything at once. This is a long-term practice, and the aim is steady improvement - not perfection. More details soon.
