Start studying what other small businesses are doing
I was looking at the noticeboard at South Beach cafe today and instead of looking at the events, I started focusing on which flyers were calling out to me and why they were so appealing. I started to gain quite a few insights into how I should promote my community and events on noticeboards from now on. Ideally you want people to be curious about your flyer and enquire further. The one in the top right corner that says "Are you ready?". It's the smallest one there but that was the one I couldn't avoid. It drew me in. So I'm going to use the same tactic for my next lot of flyers. Do you do this as well?

PS: Here is the back of my friend’s business card. I was thinking “How can I do something similar without copying?” I think the answer is to use less than 4 words… or arrange the font in different sizes. Perhaps “Learn Aussie English” … Or… I think “Are you ready to learn Aussie English?” is too many words, but like I said if I play with font sizes it might stand out.

The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron
I've just started reading The Artist's Way again because my daily pages routine has lost its way a bit. I highly recommend reading it! It's super inspiring. What are you currently reading?

It’s by Austin Kleon. Also “Keep going” and “Show your work”. Easy to read. I need to actually implement what it suggests though. It basically is about watching what others do, imitating or copying to learn how to do that thing and developing your style along the way. All good artists learn from other artists. And it’s not just for art but creating something, growing a skill, etc. @Jason Batchelor
