What Books Did You Read in Childhood?
šŸ“š Throwback Question: What Did You Read as a Kid? I was thinking back to my childhood reading habits, and it hit me how different they were compared to what I read now. Back then, I was all about fun, fictional books—anything that kept me entertained and pulled me into a story. One of my favorites was the Goosebumps series. I used to fly through those books as a pre-teen. And then when the Goosebumps show came out, it was such a cool experience seeing those stories come to life. I remember noticing how some parts were different from what I had imagined while reading—which made it even more fun. It really made me realize how powerful storytelling is… especially when it sticks with you years later. Now I’m curious—what about YOU? - What books or series did you love growing up? - Were you into fiction, or something totally different? - Did any of those stories stick with you into adulthood? Ebooks vs Paperbacks… what actually sells more? šŸ‘€šŸ“š
I’ve been getting this question a lot lately, and recently posted by @Mk Duma and I think there’s a big misconception around it. Some people assume that physical books are fading out and everything is moving digital… but that’s not what I’m seeing at all. In my own numbers, I consistently get more paperback sales than ebooks—and that’s not by accident. It’s part of how I structure my strategy. The truth is, people still want physical books. There’s something about holding a book, flipping through pages, highlighting, or even just having it sit on your shelf that makes it feel more valuable. It’s also easier to gift, and for a lot of readers, it creates a better overall experience. And if you zoom out for a second, the market is showing us the same thing. Barnes & Noble is actively expanding again. They’re opening new stores, investing in high-traffic locations, and doubling down on the in-store experience—including a major new presence in downtown Chicago. Companies don’t invest millions into retail space unless there’s real demand. That alone should tell you that physical books are far from dead—they’re actually gaining momentum again. Now, let’s bring this back to KDP and how this affects your strategy. With ebooks, your royalty is capped. You only earn 70% if your book is priced between $2.99 and $9.99. If you go outside that range, it drops to 35%. So you’re already working within tighter margins. Paperbacks, on the other hand, give you more flexibility. You can price them higher, they feel more premium to the buyer, and you typically earn more per sale. This is why I don’t focus my ads on ebooks. A lot of people assume lower price = easier conversion, so they push traffic to the ebook. But even if it converts, you’re making less per sale. Instead, I run ads to my paperback. That way I’m optimizing for: - Higher perceived value - Better profit per conversion - Stronger overall momentum across formats The ebook is still there, but it’s not the main driver.

Let me take some pressure off you real quick… You don’t have to do this the hard way. Here are a few options most people don’t realize they have: 1. You don’t have to write it yourself. You can hire a ghostwriter or collaborate with someone who helps bring your ideas to life. Your role becomes the visionary, not the one staring at a blank page. 2. Start simple (seriously) Your first book does NOT need to be a 30,000-word masterpiece. You can start with: šŸ“– Workbooks šŸ““ Journals šŸ—“ļø Planners āœļø Coloring books This is one of the fastest ways to learn the KDP process without getting stuck in overthinking. 3. Repurpose what you already know. You probably already have content sitting somewhere: • Past posts • Emails • Trainings • Voice notes That can all be turned into a book way faster than starting from scratch. 4. Use AI as your assistant (not your replacement)AI can help you: • Outline your book • Expand ideas • Reword sections • Speed up your workflow You’re still the creator—it just helps you move faster. 5. Validate BEFORE you write. This is where most people go wrong. Before you spend weeks creating something, make sure people are actually searching for it. A simple keyword check can save you from writing a book no one buys. 6. Think of your book as a tool, not just a product. Your book can: šŸ’°Bring in passive income 🌟 Grow your authority šŸ§‘ā€šŸ¤ā€šŸ§‘Send people into your community šŸŽ‰ Turn readers into clients It’s bigger than just ā€œselling a book.ā€ If you’ve been putting this off because it feels like too much… this is your sign to simplify it. This question came from @Gale Bates —and the answer is: it depends. Most Amazon reviews typically go live within 24–72 hours after being submitted. But… sometimes they show up within a day, others it could take over a week!šŸ—“ļø If it’s been longer than that, there’s usually a reason šŸ‘‡ āž”ļø Why Your Review Might Not Get Posted Amazon has gotten very strict with reviews, and not all of them make it through. Here are the most common reasons: ⭐Reviewer hasn’t spent enough on Amazon: Amazon requires a minimum spend (usually $50 in the past 12 months) to leave reviews. ⭐Too many reviews in a short time: If someone is reviewing a bunch of products quickly, Amazon may flag it as suspicious activity. ⭐Connection to the author: If Amazon detects a relationship (same household, IP address, etc.), the review may be blocked. ⭐Incentivized reviews: If someone feels like they were ā€œbribedā€ or required to leave a review, it can get removed. ⭐Content issues: Reviews that are too short, overly promotional, or violate guidelines can be rejected. ⭐New accounts: Brand-new Amazon accounts often have a harder time getting reviews approved. āž”ļø What This Means for You as an Author Getting reviews isn’t just about asking...it’s about doing it the right way so they actually stick.
