Backing up + body pressure
In the last few years, since my canine strength cert/parkour experience deepened, I have worked really hard to eliminate body pressure from my training. One of the skills where body pressure is most easily applied is when we are teaching a ‘backup.” We walk towards our dogs and “voila” they back up…or drop into a sit, as a reaction to our pressure. The Int’l Parkour Association changed that for me! Now, this is my favorite way to teach a beep beep. 😉 Much clearer and cleaner training, no body pressure!

Any troubleshooting advice for if the dog tries everything else except taking even a tiny step backwards? I.e. going through my legs and around, coming back through “middle”, sitting, jumping up. I’m trying to mark even slight body shift backwards but it’s tough! Will get some video next time we practice

Okay, super helpful! We’re definitely not breaking it down small enough. Will try this tomorrow! Thanks!
Little Wins!!!
Tell us all your training fun - big or little wins! I’ll go first: Mollee walked politely on a leash twice in public. If you know of her enthusiasm, you know that’s a big deal. (I also got my first shin splint in 20+ years running in my chacos…) And y’all?

Henry figured out how to jump into the car without his elevator (mom) assist 😊
