I haven’t come from a highly educated background. However, I’ve been educated in that old tradition of hard knocks. I’m coming to understand that, at my MSP, I have need to keep track of what each person knows or is competent. My brain keeps coming back to how teachers did it when I was in school. Divide into semesters, content, then test. Surely there is a smart way to track than a spreadsheet. I’d love your thoughts.

I am running a stand up session today for a group of techs in another state. The approach will be that the weakest member (as I see it) will be teaching the rest of us everything he thinks he knows about VLANs. I will then open Packet Tracer in a sandbox environment and get their hands on some Cisco Configs. I think if they can learn Cisco CLI and grasp it, Other vendors like HP and and Dell and Netgear and Meraki are a piece of cake.

Do you like a light hearted training session? Or are you all business? If I don't inject something fun into video trainings that I create, I don't enjoy it. It seems like drudgery. My superiors, or at least some of them, are the latter and don't think having fun is the route I should take in training video creation. I would like to know what you think. Are you more likely to watch training that injects fun? or all business?
