Who is up for a backpacking challenge?
This was a beautifully rewarding mountain pass we went through last year - it challenged every fiber in my being to slow down, not give up, and keep the group together. All valuable skills in leadership and life. Challenges and pushing your limits is one of the more valuable and underrated expereinces we often miss out on in modern life. Message me or comment here if you want to come on one of our trips! Booking now for Spring/Winter 2026. Skye

Who is up for a backpacking challenge?
First IRL Meetup in CO Mountains! (Booked and on waiting list only)
Hello everybody. I know this group is small, so I am just going to keep posting and attracting members slowly. Eventually we will be mighty. Since I am already a mountain guide I wanted to share my upcoming event itinerary in Colorado this August from the 19th-16th. It is currently fully booked but if people drop out last minute I will post here so feel free to join in. https://linktr.ee/skyesalley - Full itinerary of events the summertime https://octagonal-garage-74d.notion.site/14er-Crushers-3239dace0bd28055b1cbc34ea6917ee4?source=copy_link - 14er Crushers event (fully booked but on wait list) Check it out!

The North Star - Individuation
Individuation, as defined by Carl Jung is the disciplined process of becoming psychologically whole β€” integrating the conscious and unconscious aspects of the psyche so you are no longer ruled by what you refuse to see - in the physical and the mental. It is not self-improvement. It is self-integration. Most people live adapted lives. Their fears dictate decisions. Their shadow drives behavior. They inherit values they never examined. They chase approval from people they do not respect. Individuation asks something harder: Who are you beneath conditioning? How does your conditioning limit your development? Here, we pursue that question through disciplined action. Too much mentalism leads to rumination. Too much physicality without reflection leads to ego. Spirituality without grounding becomes delusion. Community without individuation becomes dependency. We train both body and psyche because they are inseparable. This means: β€’ Increasing functional movement capacity β€” strength, balance, coordination, resilience, stillness. Not aesthetics. β€’ Confronting and integrating rejected parts of yourself β€” fear, insecurity, outdated belief. β€’ Reclaiming projections and reducing unconscious control. β€’ Acting from internal conviction rather than social pressure. This is not a content library. This is not passive motivation. Participation is required. Reflection is required. Action is required. Our goal is not to fit in. It is to become internally integrated, physically capable, and psychologically self-led β€” then relate to others from that foundation. That is our North Star.

Welcome to The Backcountry Society
Before sharing anything here, take a moment and answer this β€” honestly, and without polishing it: What challenge are you currently avoiding that you know would change you if you faced it? This can be physical, psychological, relational, or practical. You don’t need to explain everything. One or two sentences is enough. This community is built on practice and honesty β€” not performance. I’ll go first: I am avoiding telling people I meet that I am a mountain guide because I am afraid they will judge me as non-traditional.
