Bubble: Protection Score not updating in UI even though checkboxes save to database
Post Content Hi everyone, I’m building a Bubble MVP and I’m stuck on a UI data-binding issue. I have: * A SafetySettings data type * It stores boolean fields like: β€’ safe_search β€’ youtube_safe_mode β€’ block_adult β€’ block_violence β€’ block_gambling β€’ learning_unlimited Each child has one SafetySettings record. βΈ» What works The checkboxes are auto-bound to the database fields, so when I toggle them they save correctly. βΈ» What I’m trying to do Display a Protection Strength score (0–6) based on how many checkboxes are enabled. I tried calculating it in a text element using: safe_search:formatted as number β€’ youtube_safe_mode:formatted as number β€’ block_adult:formatted as number β€’ block_violence:formatted as number β€’ block_gambling:formatted as number β€’ learning_unlimited:formatted as number βΈ» The problem The UI score does not update correctly, even though the database values change. βΈ» Setup Group Settings Type: SafetySettings Data source: Search for Childs:first item’s safety_settings Checkboxes use auto-binding to the parent group’s thing. βΈ» Question Is this the correct way to calculate a UI score from boolean fields? Or should this be handled with a workflow instead? βΈ» I’ll attach screenshots of: * Group data source * Checkbox auto-binding * Score expression * Safety Level conditions Thanks in advance!

Hey @Anthony Anyaehie ! sorry for the delay, so I think the problem is with the workflow that updates the protection_score, something is probably not right there. What do you mean the UI sometimes still shows the wrong strength level? is it comes with a delay? when exactly is shows the wrong level.

@Anthony Anyaehie Yes those screenshots are the code itself, but if you could attach the screenshots or a video showing just the flow itself - what do you click, and what the text displays, it will be much clearer.

@Claudius Krucker I agree with your reasoning! I think that Bubble is very good regarding giving guide rails for developers. And without becoming proficient in many programming concepts, vibe coding can lead to messy and even worse results. On another note, I do think that being open to expand the tools belt of a developer is important as well, so I'll try to help in making that as easy as possible! :D
Freelancing to Freedom in 2026
In 2025, I traded my job for the world, freelancing full-time with Bubble while traveling through Southeast Asia. If you dream of that same freedom in 2026, listen up. Want to become a Bubble freelancer? Here's the exact learning path I'd follow: Stage 1: Fundamentals (Week 1-2) -> Complete Bubble's official tutorials -> Understand data types, workflows, and conditions -> Build 1 simple app (todo list, contact form) Stage 2: Real Apps (Week 3-6) -> Build a marketplace app -> Build a SaaS dashboard with user auth -> Learn API connections (Stripe, Airtable, OpenAI) Stage 3: Portfolio (Week 7-8) -> Pick your niche (SaaS, marketplaces, internal tools) -> Build 2-3 polished portfolio pieces -> Deploy them on a custom domain Stage 4: First Clients (Week 9-12) -> Post your work on LinkedIn daily -> Join Bubble communities and help people for free -> Send 5 personalized outreach messages per day Stage 5: Scale (Month 4+) -> Raise your prices after every 2-3 projects -> Build templates to speed up delivery -> Create recurring revenue (maintenance plans) 12 weeks from zero to your first paying client. It's not a guarantee. But it's a proven path. Save this. Share it with someone who needs it.

Hey @Aditya Anshuli do you mean Privacy Rules? privacy policy is a document you need to make when publishing the app - the privacy rules apply on your database to make it secure. If you meant Privacy rules, than Airdev have a free resource teaching that their bootcamp, and there’s also bunch on 15 min videos on YouTube that also can explain the whole concept pretty good. If you get stuck in implementation I can help you make the right decisions there, let me know!
