Shared Housing!
One of our awesome community members, Pink Owl, in Pennsylvania found this resource where people can find shared housing. There just might be something like this in other states as well. Let's use this as a reference and see what we can find out there for everybody else. Thanks Pink Owl! https://www.pa.gov/services/aging/apply-to-the-shared-housing-and-resource-exchange--share--progra

Hello Ed. I followed Pink Owl’s lead and found the same not-for-profit agency in Michigan. They have services to help seniors and the disabled stay in their home. It’s called MI Choice (pronounced My Choice). They also offer community services for home modifications, food delivery, transit, help with Medicare, and support for caregivers, and enrichment classes. https://areaagencyonaging.org

housekeeping question. Are we sending info to you and you’ll add it to the State it belongs in? Or, are we supposed to add to the State ourselves. For some reason, I can’t see the State’s info on the app. Is it me

I was laid off from my job in April. I’ve been using GoodRx for my prescriptions. I bought the premium pkg ($9.99) because it reduced an expensive medication significantly by being a member. I used the free version for many years as well, and it was very helpful. There is an app, but I’m sure you can search the internet for the online version. All you need to do is enter your zip code, add your medications, dose, and how often you take it, and it’ll find participating pharmacies and how much they will discount your meds.

Hello Dr Ed. Can you please tell me what is the correct answer for SSDI and SSI? On your program the other day, a lady asked about SSDI benefits for her high functioning autistic adult child, who graduated college but has not found a job. You responded that he is not eligible for SSDI bc he didn’t contribute to SS. I believe you suggested he apply for SSI? Here’s where I need clarification. When I spoke to SSA about my 26yo with the same disability, the agent told me my daughter will not qualify for SSI if she has investment funds or money in a bank account. However, when her father takes SS, she will be eligible for benefits on his record. Can you please verify this information is true or false? Ty!

Yes, I was watching. Ty! The 1st part of the answer from SS is correct. ✅ The 2nd part of the question wasn’t verified. Is it correct that she can apply for benefits on her father’s SS after he files, regardless of the money she has in her bank or investments we have for her? The reason i wanted to hear your answer is bc I’m fairly new here, and I’m out of the loop on SSI…until I listened to your podcast. Is it common knowledge that if you want SSI, you cannot have more than $2000 to your name? .My daughter works part-time at Kroger bagging and bringing in carts. There is no way in hell she could survive on just her wages if she didn’t live with me! Do ppl really need to be destitute before they can get SSI? These programs are a ‘safety net’, a hand up, as they say. but we are witnessing what a cookoo bird in the WH can do to this net. it’s not just these kids I’m concerned about, but all ppl with disabilities that are already at a disadvantage.

Will do. There are so many ppl who know more than I do about this. I will gladly let them take the lead, and I'll assist. For now, I'm happy to follow the to-do list until others jump in.
