Question: pros & cons of market recap
Hello fellow potters! I’d love to share a discussion where we go through the pros and cons of sharing information about pottery markets. Probably the most interesting is the money part. I’ve been interested and thankful to potters who share this information and I fully recognize that this is a personal choice… no obligation to do it or not. However, no matter which side of that decision you fall I’d love to hear the pros and cons from your perspective. Also, what else would you want to learn about a pottery market as a viewer? What are the pros and cons of sharing that? Thanks!!

pricing is difficult. I have had some people say I need to charge more but I am In an area where many can’t afford to spend much and I want them To have pieces so I keep My prices low and many people comment that my pricing is affordable and they appreciate it and many come by and check things out every market. I don’t think sharing the money thing is a problem except that people need to realize there is a lot of geographical cost of living data that affects pricing in different areas. I think if you have lived in your area for a period of time you have a feel For what people are willing to spend for non necessity items. Hearing what other people charge for things doesn’t really influence my pricing. I like to hear what items sell well for others and compare to what sells well for me. I am Learning big items are not good sellers in my area. Large bowls, platters etc just don’t move for me.
Potter Meet-up
Hi All! I will be traveling from the Richmond, VA area to Kansas City, MO on July 1 - 2. Along the way I will meet up with @Kimberly Cook @Angela Petty and @Lori Turner . While in KC, I will meet up with Lisa Stacy. From KC, I will be driving to Georgetown, TX. If there are any potters along that route who wish to meet for coffee, lunch, etc., let me know. I will be making that trip on Monday, July 6th. It's an 11 hour drive, so frequent breaks are welcome. From Texas, I will be heading back to Virginia somewhere in the July 10th through the 12th, taking my time and splitting the drive up into 2 or 3 days depending on the route. Maps offers 3 main routes, as shown in the image below. I'm sure there are pottery peeps along this route, if you want to meet up. Please comment below or send me a private message!

Road trips are so fun and you are adding more fun along the way which is awesome. I am 2 1/2 hours from KC so maybe on your next trip, I can come say hi.
Kiln advice
I’m hoping to get my first kiln later this year and trying to figure out what size to go for. I’m looking at a 60 litre 15amp as the electrics are more straightforward but wondering if in the long run I’d be better getting the electrics sorted for a bigger option? It will be in a shed at the side of my house. I’d love to hear about people’s experiences and if your first kiln has been your only one? 😁

I bought a skutt 1018 but now wish I had went to the 1022 so had more height for tall pieces. I think that plus a smaller one for when you need to do decals or have something you need to get thru quickly would be the way I would go if I was to do it again.
To kiln or not to kiln?
Does everyone on here have a personal kiln? I currently only have the ability to fire my pieces at a community art center. I don't know if I can have a kiln if my own or even afford one!

I want to control my firings so I purchased a kiln. When I snowbird in AZ I am using a studio kiln with no control and I don’t like it. Usually end up refiring many pieces when I get home.
