Challenge! Show Up & Create
Most artists don’t fail because of talent. They disappear. So let’s fix that. New challenge: Show Up & Create → 3x per week→ for 30 days→ post whatever you made (finished or messy) Rules: - No perfection - No overthinking - Just proof you showed up - Miss a day? Don’t quit. Just continue. This is about becoming someone who creates. Not someone who waits. I’m in too. Who’s joining?

Another of my watercolor study and I tried to make a kind of landscape but I ended up botching my first watercolor pine tree as well as the whole landscape 🥲🥲🥲🫠🫠🫠 My poor pine tree has become entirely something else in the 3rd one while trying to get that perfectly proper pine shape 🥲🥲🥲🥲

@Emma Andrews Thank you. First one is the locally made handmade rough paper which claims to be watercolor paper while the 2nd one is oil painting paper. I even tried mixed media for oil pastels but when I did blending with my fingers, it just got all ruined and botched up 🥲🥲🥲I actually apply way more pressure when using dry mediums so still trying to let the medium do the talking without controlling them. That is something I am still trying to let go of

@Jenny Warden I had to use one while working with them on the watercolor paper cause of the amount of dust they made on it plus they didn't stay put much either. They work on mixed media paper too??? 😳😳😳😳

@Jenny Warden I have mungyo gallery artist's soft pastels as they are more affordable here. I'll give them a try on mixed media paper too as well 🙂

@Doreen Oke I did attend a pottery workshop near to my sector when I was in school and it really was a lot of fun, later had something similar in another workshop when I was studying fashion design 🙂😊 At the moment, its thriving even more but need to find out if there are any classes or workshops for the same 🙂
I need to postpone our Coffee Hour by one week.
Hi everyone, Unfortunately, my daughter and I are currently at the hospital after an accident. It looks like her knee will likely need stitches, so she will be staying home from school this week while she recovers. Because of this, I need to postpone our Coffee Hour by one week. My sincere apologies to anyone who had arranged time off or adjusted their schedule to attend. Thank you so much for your understanding and patience. I’ll keep you updated and look forward to seeing you all next week. Thank you for your support. ❤️ Valérie

🎨 Artist Success Research Project
I’ve been wondering something… Why do some artists consistently sell their work online while others—equally talented—struggle to make sales? Instead of guessing, I’d love for us to investigate this together. The Challenge Find one or more artist who appears to be selling successfully online and share your findings below. It can be any artist: - Emerging artist - Full-time professional - Daily painter - Abstract artist - Realist artist - Digital artist - Print seller - Commission artist The goal is not to copy them. The goal is to understand:What are they doing that works? Questions to Research 1. Who is the artist? Share their website, Instagram, Etsy, Daily Paintworks, or wherever they sell. 2. What kind of art do they make? - Style - Subject matter - Medium - Price range 3. Where are they selling? - Website - Etsy - Daily Paintworks - Shopify - Galleries - Art fairs - Instagram - Other platforms 4. What seems to attract buyers? Examples: - Strong storytelling - Unique style - Consistent posting - Emotional connection - Affordable prices - High-end luxury branding - Limited editions - Commissions 5. How often do they post? - Daily? - Weekly? - Several times a day? 6. What type of content do they share? - Finished artwork - Work in progress - Studio life - Tutorials - Personal stories - Time-lapses - Collector photos - Other… 7. What can we learn from them? This is the most important question. What is one thing you think contributes to their success? For those who enjoy digging deeper: - How many followers do they have? - Do they have an email list? - Do they sell originals, prints, or both? - Do they use scarcity (“only one available”)? - Do they tell the story behind each piece? - Are they targeting collectors or casual buyers? - What emotions are they selling? Our Goal By the end of this project, we’ll hopefully identify patterns. Or maybe we’ll discover something completely unexpected.

@Brigid Queen I watched Susan Jenkins's videos on YouTube after I botched up my first attempt at using soft pastels direct on watercolor paper. She mentioned about it in one of her videos like how she also struggled to make the soft pastels stay put on that paper and not become muddy so she attended a workshop by another artist who talked about how these papers are externally sized with gelatin which is what makes the water stay above the paper and not be absorbed. In order to use pastels on it, he then talked about using sandpaper on the watercolor paper to add that tooth needed for the soft pastels to fill them in. So she used that method and showed the difference between using soft pastels direct on watercolor paper and using them after removing the sizing from a portion of the same paper. Here is what I made with the soft pastels on the watercolor paper before I saw that video. As for the watercolors, that was my art teacher's suggestion to loosen myself and not keep trying to control the medium.

@Brigid Queen She might have learnt from Susan Jenkins which is quite possible. And she also tried using soft pastels on all kinds of papers too. So that was really helpful as well.
