Sometimes We Need to Make Something Real
So much of what we do today exists behind a screen. We click, scroll, type, upload... and then move on to the next digital thing. Making something with our hands feels different because we can actually see and touch the result. Sometimes that physical sense of accomplishment is exactly what we've been missing.

Yes. Now, get outside and breathe the fresh air, touch the trees, smell that amazing wilderness. Or take time to back. Or garden. Take your time with it too and realize that this is the reward for all of the hard work. And when you resume with the online work and communications, you will interact in different ways.
Stop Waiting for the Spark
How many times have we told ourselves... "I'll start when inspiration comes." The problem is... inspiration rarely knocks on the door of someone who's waiting. It usually visits the people... who have already started. Sometimes the spark appears only after you strike the match. 😊

Or it appears for those who know the formula and can create their own sparks on demand. It's way easier than waiting for someone else to inspire.
MOTIVATION IS OVERRATED
Everybody talks about motivation as if it were magic. The YouTube speeches. The inspirational quotes. The hype videos with cinematic music and slow-motion workouts. We have turned motivation into a modern myth: The idea that one spark of inspiration will change everything. It will not. Motivation feels good, but it is unreliable. It shows up when it wants to, disappears when you need it most, and leaves you stranded in the gap between dreams and discipline. The Motivation Trap Here is how the trap works: • You get inspired and make big plans. • You ride the emotional high for a few days. • The hype fades. • You stop showing up because you no longer feel it. • You blame yourself for lacking motivation. And the cycle repeats. Over and over. The Brutal Reality Motivation is not a strategy. It is a spark. Useful for ignition, useless for endurance. The people who get extraordinary results are not the most motivated. They are the ones who keep showing up when they are tired, bored, or uninspired. They rely on systems, not moods. They follow routines, not whims. They treat action like a non-negotiable, not a when I feel like it option. The Power Shift • Stop worshipping motivation. Build habits and systems that make action automatic. • This means: • Scheduling your work instead of waiting for inspiration • Breaking tasks into small, repeatable steps • Treating discipline like a muscle you train daily • Holding yourself accountable even when the spark is gone The Takeaway Motivation gets you started, but discipline finishes the job. Stop chasing emotional highs and start building systems that do not care how you feel. Because success does not belong to the most inspired. It belongs to the most consistent. ***************** Continue the Reflection👇 This article is part of the Digital Restart Journey™ series. MOTIVATION IS OVERRATED

Agreed, the habits, practices and processes in a system do keep the engine running even when on empty. At the same time, building in a drop of inspiration along the way is not a bad idea. Those little boosts can actually become habits that are part of the system. And they can be the mechanism to fill empty tanks along the way, not just for you but for your team as well. Building in music, dancing, joyful celebrations and frequent connections to celebrating values and progress along the way, for me, are non-negotiable components of the system practices. The flow of energy this creates exceeds the initial spark and, while it's not entirely motivation as a concept, it helps sustain momentum even in the ebbs of flowing team/work/life energy.

@William Siong at one point when I was managing a super challenging project I created something called The Appreciation Game. We inserted the game at the end of every weekly meeting. Part of the system to break down resistance to the change we were all working in together. It also increased the team bonds being belief. And as a result, it generated breakthrough ideas that the project needed to be successful. Such fun systematized!
Today's Reflection
Stop Glorifying Burnout As Ambition Somewhere along the way, many of us started believing that being constantly exhausted was a sign of success. The longer we worked... The less we slept... The busier we looked... ...the more ambitious we appeared. But what if we've been celebrating the wrong thing all along? 👈

Yes indeed. I find that the commonly used definitions of success are the worst at providing what we truly need to live an amazing life we love. It's all in the metrics we use to measure success. Shifting the metrics that are most important to a life of meaning changes our choices so we can let go of what is not serving our life desires.

@Donald Cooper precisely. Everyone's metrics are unique to them. The more people lock into their own success metrics the better they are at achieving them.
Finding Community In A Connected World
Can I share something with you? We live in the most connected time in history. We can message anyone within seconds. Join communities from anywhere in the world. Follow thousands of people online. Yet many adults still quietly struggle with loneliness. I've been thinking about this a lot lately, and it inspired me to write this week's Digital Restart Journey reflection. **Finding Community in a Connected World** It's not about getting more followers or collecting more contacts. It's about finding the people who make you feel accepted, understood, and that you truly belong. If you've ever felt lonely despite being surrounded by people, or you're trying to rebuild your social circle during a new season of life, I hope this reflection encourages you. I'd love for you to read it here: https://williamsiong.substack.com/p/finding-community-in-a-connected As always, I'd love to hear your thoughts after you've read it. Have a wonderful day. — William

Thank you for the reflection and the article. Now I get where restarting is happening for me at this time of my life's journey. I lived in large cities, in big corporate job roles, massive projects. Leading impossible challenges. And there has been a sorta community that has kept showing up with whom I feel connected. But now, Those connections have changed and we no longer have the same context. We love each other and will always be there for each other. At the same time when I left that world behind and started travelling a new pathway in Rural Canada, getting married and changing my identity, building a brand new career and also a community, my relationships have changed and I'm restarting community creation yet again. I'm like you in my desire for a community of meaningful connections and conversations where deep unfolding and shared support exist. A place where we each belong and contribute our shared brilliance. It is a restart. It is an adventure.
