For years and years I was stuck in a very negative mindset - - I tried to be thankful - I tried to have it all together and do all the right things... you see, performing was my mode of operation. Being a peacemaker, not creating waves, stuffing all my feelings, simply not needing anything - - and then it all blew to bits - I thought I was a pretty good person, and then I had kids... and MY WORD, these kids of mine knew how to push all my buttons and all those stuffed emotions came storming out. I became this angry mom who yelled at her kids A LOT!! I really hated this person, but you know, "my kids made me do it". If they would just obey or be happy, or make good choices, I wouldn't be so angry, RIGHT??? WRONG!!! - 5 years ago my world was completely upended and I knew I desperately needed help. - I read a book called Switch On Your Brain by Dr Caroline Leaf and something clicked. I hired a life coach in 2020 and it has been the wildest ride of my life!! I initially thought it would be a quick fix and if I could just learn how to manage my anger and be a better mom, life would be so much better. - It was not a QUICK FIX in any sense of the imagination - in fact, I am still on a tedious journey of deconstructing and reprogramming my brain. HOWEVER, my therapist reminds me over and over again that I have come a long way and I need to focus on celebrating every win. NO MATTER where you are on your journey, every single step matters and is very important in processing your story. Reading is something I love to do! In the past year I've also started listening to some books on audio and I do love a good podcast. What I listen to and How much I listen is rather sporadic for me, totally depending on where I am in sensory overload. When you choose to work on your mindset, you need to intentionally listen to mindset coaches or read a good book . Right now I try listen to Jim Rohn, Tony Robbins, or Mel Robbins in the morning as I'm starting my day! My next goal is to create a Resource Page in the classroom !!
