TODAY IS MORE THAN A DAY OFF❣️
On June 19, 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed, enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, finally learned they were free. Think about that. They had to wait for someone to tell them they were free, enslaved for two extra years. You don’t❣️ Don’t wait for permission. Don’t wait for validation. Don’t wait for someone else to tell you you’re good enough, talented enough, worthy enough, or ready enough. Walk in your freedom❣️ At Sewing Thru It, that freedom looks like refusing to blame your body for clothes that were never made with your curves in mind. It looks like learning a skill that lets you create what fits your life—not someone else’s standard❣️ Today, we honor the strength, resilience, and sacrifice of those who came before us. And we remember this: They waited two years free as $&@; and didn’t know it❣️because they had to. You don’t❣️ So create. Dream. Start the business. Learn the skill. Wear the clothes. Take up the space. Freedom isn’t just something we celebrate. It’s something we get to walk in every single day, that our ancestors didn’t get to do even when it was legal for them to. ❤️ Happy Juneteenth🦋 Smooches 😘 —B. Michele
