Thank you, very much, Patrycja Janik! As for blending, 99% of the time I rely on the direct application of a graphite pencil. In addition to the pencil, the main tool I use is a kneaded eraser. Of the blending tools, I use stumps and brushes, but mainly to even out tones, to darken the shadows or to lighten, i.e. to remove excess material that I have applied. I also use brushes and stumps to even out the layers of the white pastels as well as to remove excess white pastel that I have applied on the lightest parts. So on the transitions from dark to light, I almost exclusively use a pencil and a kneaded eraser. I hope I managed to explain how I use the different tools.

Spotting the Great Trochanter in a Study after François Boucher
I was drawn to the beautiful twist in this pose, such a dynamic rhythm! The bean method works perfectly when capturing the torsos in Boucher’s figures; it really helps to anchor the movement. After watching Chris’s video on the Great Trochanter, I couldn’t help but notice how clearly it stands out in this pose. It’s like a central knot where so many muscle forms converge, such a fascinating area to study! Looking at it now, I think I could have emphasized that “knot” a little better, definitely something I will consider in my next studies. Coloured pencil and graphite on paper.

Just finished this today — I’m happy with how it turned out! I used ballpoint pens and coloured pencils, with some digital tweaks at the end to bring it all together.

ART HISTORY
I get that not everyone that loves the craft of creating art also loves the deep dives and stories behind their favorite pieces or even art history period but for those as interested in Art History as I am, I recommend two youtube channels in particular. "Great Art Explained" does just that and goes deeper into the stories and meanings behind the Rock Star paintings weve all seen before.
