This Week 🔥 + Last Week's Livestream
Last Week’s Livestream 🎥 Just uploaded the recording from last week’s livestream, it's under the classroom tab. We covered a lot, including clarifying my stance on plugins and how your production choices are actually marketing. This week, here’s what’s coming up 🔥 - Production Session with one of you — I’ll pick someone at random. If you want to be in the running, drop a comment and let me know. I'll be doing one per week moving forward - Fix the Mix video (like last week’s with Hunter) — if you want me to work on yours, send stems to [email protected]. - New Lesson dropping later this week. - Livestream – Friday at 1PM MST. Also, I want to hear everyone's goals for the week: 1️⃣ A concrete goal for the week (something you’ll actually finish and ideally share publicly). 2️⃣ A specific skill or focus you want to level up in your production. Example: “Understand sound design better” or “Simplify my mixing.”

Yo! Thanks for the update. I'm down for the production session. 1. My goal is to make three beats this week by playing and recording the chords on my keyboard (not clicking in notes). 2. I want to improve my ability to play the piano and understand the music theory behind chord progressions, especially in relation to the lil Tecca type beats that I am targeting.
Update 🔥
Just dropped the new Mixing Lesson + Fixing a Mix video. Unfortunately, Justus — I tried, but wasn’t able to dive into your mix this week. There was a bass line missing, and several tracks were grouped together. If things are already consolidated into a bus or group, there’s not much I can change. When you send mixes, make sure each layer of the idea is tracked out on its own track (no buses or grouped stems). I really like this format — it’s a fun way to break things down and show how I approach mixing. If you want me to take a shot at fixing your mix, send the stems to [email protected]. (Justus, feel free to re-send that idea organized with each track separate.) Last week’s livestream will be posted tomorrow, one more lesson is coming later this week, and the next live session is Friday at 1PM MST for whoever can make it.

Great lesson! Can you describe what the knobs on the soft clipper do and proper settings? I use FL and the soft clipper has a threshold and a post gain knob. I have the threshold set at -4.4 and post gain at 80% (This is the default setting). How does changing these knobs effect the output and what is the general recommended settings? Also, I understand that mixing is always based on listening more than exact numbers but how much should I be pushing the gain into the soft clipper generally? Thanks for all your help.
First Lesson up now! The art of making a hit

Great lesson, thanks. My biggest takeaway is to focus on making hits. I am currently uploading 3 beats a week and in the past I was doing 5. The everyday grind of making sure I am making enough beats to keep up with my schedule leads me to lose site of this concept sometimes. Its a win-win in a way because the simpler I make my beats, the more I will be able to make, and the more general appeal they will have. You mentioned watching interviews of great producers to learn how their mind works. Do you have any recommendations for shows that do great interviews or places to find a collection of interviews worth watching?
Welcome!
I’ll be dropping two new production lessons every week — one on Monday and one on Wednesday. Then on Friday at 1PM MST, we’ll go live. That’s where I'll answer questions, go over concepts, all in real time. You don’t need to be live for the lessons — only for Friday’s stream if you want to join in. 💡 Note: The live stream is for premium members only, except for the first week (free trials can join this one). If you just joined, drop a quick intro below 👇 Say your name, where you’re from, what you’re working on, and what you’re trying to improve in your production right now. Glad you’re here — excited to get better together 🎹🔥

What's good y'all I'm Joe Dirt. I'm from Minneapolis, MN. I'm working on growing a type beat business in the Lil Tecca/New Jazz Niche. Right now I am trying to further develop my music theory and focus on perfecting my niche.
