Day 47 of Dev50! (Thu 14th Nov)
Reflections: I have been thinking about this challenge a lot this last week. At the start of this challenge I felt a strong benefit from doing it. It got me more involved in the community and forced me to be more reflective about how effectively I was using my time. But recently, I have actually felt like these daily logs have become more like a chore, like they are actually taking that little bit of time away that I could spend on other important things. I feel like it has been great to go through that process of deeper and more open reflection, but that I don’t need it anymore, and also that I would rather focus on more meaningful content for the community than churning out these logs, which tend to be quite repetitive for me. With that in mind, I have decided to cap this off at 50. I think it is important to continuously think about your work flows and question what you are getting out of them, and if you are still getting out of them what you were in the beginning. Big respect to all those that have completed these challenges! 1️⃣a Good Sleep Last Night: ✅ Solid. 1️⃣b Productive Morning: ✅ Gentle 30 min jog (my last run before Saturday’s race), job search and applications, Spanish flashcards etc. 2️⃣ Organise to-dos… and do them: ✅ 3️⃣ 30 Minutes of Learning: ✅ Some back to basics stuff (HTML forms) on top of on project learning 4️⃣ Time to Code: ✅ Not a lot today as I was focusing on churning out a lot of job applications. I have shifted things up a bit. Normally I try to fit a bit of everything into every day but I think with the time I have available I’d be better off splitting up my week to focus more on 1 or 2 things each day, rather than context shifting so much. I started this today and I felt more productive for sure. 5️⃣ Daily Reset: ✅ 6️⃣ Support the Community: ✅ Useful Link: Why React Won The Front End Race - https://dev.to/pranta/why-react-won-the-front-end-race-4e55 - For the record, I don’t think this is a very good article. It is very sarcastic and comes across bitter, rather than funny… but I still think it is worth a read. Interested to hear what you guys think of it.

@Digitl-Alchemyst Steven-Watkins I hear you. I just have all that more or less nailed down in my own way in Notion and Notion Calendar and have found it a bit of a slog trying to transform that into a more structured post for this challenge. It is really only a few mins of effort but yeah, it started to feel like a bit of a slog. I am sure I could have streamlined the process a lot more but I guess I just got to a point where It started to feel like the whole point of the challenge was getting lost, and actually if I carried on with my own processes privately that would serve me better. I have this morning journal template set up that basically reminds me to do my morning habits straight away. So i'll normally do some exercise, then sit down with that mornings journal where it reminds me to do my Spanish flashcards, check my calendar for that and the coming days etc, and then just a couple of gratitude prompts like "3 things you are grateful for", and "3 things that would make today great", and then it has my task database embedded and preloaded with the everyday tasks I have set to that particular day. For example, I have some days that are more focused towards job applications, networking and study, and others more focused on deep project work. Then I add any extra tasks I can think of in my head that aren't yet in my database, which can be linked to larger "projects". I have a similar evening template that lets me reflect on how the day went, and more any unfinished tasks around etc. Each takes a few mins to work through, and really helps me stay on track. Then, for example if it is a project focused day, I don't have all project-related tasks within my main tasks database. I have web dev dashboard with my projects in there and then each project will have its own Kanban board. This has all developed over the challenge, which has been one of the big achievements for me. I had processes in place before but the challenge has made me refine them to the point where they work very well for me and my life situation. Other people might hate the same processes, but they work well for me.
Thursday, 21 November - Day 6 of 75
🚀 Short Summary of the Day A productive and insightful day! Started early, took in a marathon 6-hour livestream from Sonny, and made some pivotal decisions for my personal platform. Switched tools and began planning significant upgrades to my workflow and platform backend. 📋 Detailed Progress and Achievements Morning Productivity: • Woke up early, feeling much better after the migraine subsided overnight. • Took my dog for a morning walk—always a good way to kickstart the day! Sonny’s Livestream: • Spent 6 hours watching Sonny’s livestream—intense but packed with invaluable insights. • Learned about Convex and its capabilities, which are perfect for my platform’s needs: • Realtime data processing. • Cloud integration. • Web hook support. • Made the decision to adopt Convex as the backend for my platform to handle the heavy data flow with smooth realtime feedback. Tool Upgrades: Decided to switch from VS Code (with Tabnine) to Cursor for development: • Inspired by Sonny’s demonstration. • Hoping the AI-assisted capabilities of Cursor improve efficiency and development speed. • Starting a trial to evaluate its impact on my workflow. Weekend Plans: • Scheduled to integrate Sanity CMS into my platform. • Preparing to re-record the YouTube tutorial for higher quality and depth. • Diving back into desktop app development with plans to make significant progress. 💭 Final Thoughts Today was full of inspiration and progress, and I’m really excited to see how Convex and Cursor improve my workflow. With a busy weekend ahead, I’ll need to keep the momentum going. Big shoutout to @Sonny Sangha for the incredible livestream—pure gold for anyone building modern web apps!

Boost Your Productivity & Master Your Skills: My Top 2 Book Recommendations
Hey Papafam Community, If you're looking to take your productivity and skill mastery to the next level, I’ve got two must-reads for you. These books have profoundly shaped the way I approach work and learning, and I believe they’ll do the same for you: 1. So Good They Can't Ignore You by Cal Newport In this game-changing book, Cal Newport debunks the “follow your passion” myth and instead advocates for the power of developing rare and valuable skills. Newport’s insights will help you understand why becoming exceptional in your craft can lead to greater job satisfaction and success. 2. The Programmer’s Brain by Felienne Hermans This book is a treasure for developers at any level. Felienne Hermans delves deep into how our brains process and understand code, offering practical techniques to improve learning and problem-solving. It’s an essential read for anyone who wants to code more effectively and gain a deeper understanding of programming concepts. Both books provide actionable takeaways that will transform the way you develop your skills and approach your projects. Trust me, these reads are worth every minute! Happy reading and keep pushing boundaries! Remember Learn - Do - Teach Is one of the best approach to keep you coding skill leveling up and their is lot of science backing it up. Day 50 of Dev50 (Tue 19th Nov)
Reflections: Well, this is it for me on this challenge. It has been a good exercise. A good chance to reflect on how I am using my time, if I am fully taking advantage of my days etc. It has helped me focus more, strengthen good habits and eliminate or dilute bad ones. Ready to keep pushing forward. 1️⃣a Good Sleep Last Night: ✅ Very good. Reading a book before bed always helps me to sleep better. Daily exercise is also so important. Preferably first thing in the morn. 1️⃣b Productive Morning: ✅ Got up early and went for a recovery walk. Was going to have a light jog but still feeling a bit too sore from the race at the weekend. Came back to find the cat had chewed through the internet cable, so hotspotting from my phone atm. I will sort out a new cable later today. 2️⃣ Organise to-dos… and do them: ✅ 3️⃣ 30 Minutes of Learning: ✅ Reading various docs and going a bit deeper on Cursor AI 4️⃣ Time to Code: ✅ Today is more of a job application, networking, and study day, but I did fix a few bugs 5️⃣ Daily Reset: ✅ 6️⃣ Support the Community: ✅ Useful Link: Why Front-End Developers Should Be Entrepeneurs https://blog.openreplay.com/six-tips--why-front-end-developers-should-be-entrepreneurs/ 7️⃣ Daily 49 link: https://www.skool.com/universityofcode/day-49-of-dev50-mon-18th-nov?p=e4e748e3
