WHAT HAPPENED TO THE CREATIVE PARTS OF YOU? Think about the things you used to love doing. The hobbies, the projects, the weird little interests, the things you could happily lose an entire afternoon doing. Mayhaps you loved photography, writing, painting, decorating, dancing, playing music, making things with your hands or experimenting with clothes. Were you always the kid making up stories, putting on performances, taking things apart to see how they worked or coming up with elaborate ideas that nobody else understood? Then life happened. Somewhere in the thick of being a wife, a mother, managing a household, looking after everyone and making concessions along the way, some of those things got pushed aside. The things you enjoyed doing just for the sake of doing them… the things that had nothing to do with being productive, useful or responsible. Sometimes we forget those parts of ourselves even existed. Here’s something else I want you to think about… Creativity isn’t just painting, drawing or making something with your hands. Maybe you’re the woman with a wicked sense of humor who can make an ordinary Tuesday sound like a comedy special. Maybe you tell stories in a way that makes people hang on every word. Perhaps you see connections between things that other people completely miss. Mayhaps you’re brilliant at turning an ordinary experience into something people can’t stop thinking about. Could be you love experimenting, questioning things, challenging ideas, playing with words, finding unusual ways to communicate or looking at something from an entirely different angle. THAT’S creativity too. … I think there’s a whole lot of it that women are leaving out of their content. We’re so busy trying to educate, teach, explain, provide value and make sure we’re saying all the right things that we end up creating inside a very small box. Meanwhile, the very things that could make our content interesting, recognisable and different from everyone else in our niche are sitting outside that box.
