Some people inspire us because of what they've accomplished. Others inspire us because of how they've lived. After interviewing @Reva Rice twice—once in November 2019 and again in March 2026—I realized these conversations weren't really about Broadway, Las Vegas, or even Starlight Express. They were about something much deeper. They were about living strong. Yes, Reva's career is extraordinary. She originated the role of Pearl on Broadway in Starlight Express, went on to perform in Las Vegas, and decades later returned to Germany to portray Mama in one of the world's longest-running productions. But titles and accomplishments aren't what impressed me most. What impressed me was her mindset. The way she approaches challenges. The way she embraces growth. The way she continues learning, adapting, and finding purpose through every season of life. Success leaves clues. Whenever I interview someone who has sustained excellence over decades, I ask myself one question: "What can the rest of us learn from their journey?" Not just performers. All of us. Because whether you're building a business, raising a family, teaching students, coaching athletes, serving your community, or simply trying to become a little stronger than you were yesterday, the principles are often the same. As I listened to both interviews, I found myself writing down lesson after lesson—not about performing, but about resilience, courage, discipline, purpose, and lifelong growth. Here are the lessons that stood out to me. 💙 Lesson 1: Don't wait for permission. Create the opportunity. Before Reva ever stepped onto a Broadway stage, she wasn't even an Equity member. Determined to audition for Starlight Express, she borrowed an Equity card simply to get into the room. When casting director Vincent Liotta realized what had happened, he didn't scold her.
