Hi, I'm Sanchia
Hi everyone I'm an artist based in Brisbane and am a new Studio on Brunswick Affiliate. My creative journey actually began in fashion. I won a summer scholarship to the Whitehouse School of Fashion when I was 14, later studied fashion and textile design, and worked as a pattern maker before spending 12 years homeschooling my kids and finding my way back to art. My work is inspired by nature, emotion and the feminine form, and I'm currently focused on building a sustainable art practice while continuing to develop my own artistic voice. Along the way I've been fortunate to be a finalist in the Australian Watercolour Muster and Fabriano in Italy, and have also entered the Archibald Prize and Brisbane Portrait Prize. Outside of painting, I'm a trained health coach and host The Trailblazer's Palette podcast, where I've had the privilege of interviewing artists from around the world and making some beautiful friendships. I grew up on a dairy farm in rural NSW, and the peace I find in nature still inspires so much of what I create today. I'm looking forward to connecting with other artists, continuing to learn, and being part of a community that understands the ups and downs of a creative life.😊

Art is such an adventure
Hi everyone, so excited to be part of this adventure. I am originally from Brisbane but have been on the Sunshine Coast for over 30 years. Currently I live on 10 acres (a small lychee and avocado farm) with my husband Don. I'm very fortunate to be surrounded by nature. I have three children and three granddaughters one of whom lives in Tasmania; I'm frequently in Tasmania. Earlier this year I retired from 25 years of science lecturing, before that was research. I have no formal training in art except high school and basic scientific illustration. About 7 years ago out of nowhere I painted a discarded kitchen chair with acrylic paint. It helped me in a time of deep grief. Since then I've painted 13 more discarded chairs. Now I am just finishing my first commission (small side table, pic 1) and working on Horse, a rescued rocking horse soon to be a side table. My work is full of organic forms, both real and imagined. When painting i get lost in detail which is my hope for the observer. Last year I created my website and instagram, had a chair published in an art book. This year I was a finalist in Visions earlier this year at Studio on Brunswick 🎉🎆. Woohoo! So pleased I discovered @Lyne Tilt and the gallery. Many, many moons ago I would occasionally have breakfast in the California Diner and dine at Giardenettos. How things have changed. Looking forward to meeting everyone and learning 😀.

Welcome @Lyris Snowden ❤️ I absolutely loved reading your story. Your work just makes me happy, and I love the way you're giving discarded pieces a whole new life.
hello!
Hey everyone, I'm Chloe. I'm part of the team at Studio on Brunswick, working as Art Director Assistant and Gallery Assistant. My role covers a bit of everything across the gallery, from exhibition install and artwork handling to artist liaison, and the day to day admin that keeps things running. Outside of the gallery I'm also a practising artist. I work primarily in oil paint out of my uni studio in Brisbane, and I'm currently finishing a Bachelor of Visual Art and Business at Griffith University, majoring in Painting and Management. Really looking forward to getting to know everyone in here, hearing about what you're working on, and being part of the conversation.

Hey @Chloe Turner ❤️ It's lovely to hear more about you and everything you do behind the scenes at the gallery. And you already know I love your artwork. Looking forward to seeing more of your own practice too.

Hey @Amanda Hellyer, so lovely to have you here 🥰
Hello from Dudley, Newcastle NSW
Hi my name is Rebekah or Bek my instagram is @rebekahmurrayart. I live in a small beachside suburb in Newcastle NSW- Dudley. I am open to all forms of painting, however currently I am enjoying Oil painting- still life and interiors are my favourite. I also enjoy Plein Air I try and meet with a group every Friday at locations all around Newcastle, which I absolutely love. ✨ One thing Im hoping to get from this community is a sense of belonging. Im keen to learn more from everyone else’s experiences and share anything from my own. I feel like I am at a bit of a stand still. I don’t have the structure or knowledge to know where to go next or how! I want to find my niche, at the moment I feel like I do a bit of this and a bit of that. 👩🏻‍🎨 My main goal would be to learn how to create and more importantly, finish, a body of work or series I can work with to move forward. Very excited to meet everyone 😊 WIP - Inspiration from the Instagroup- room portrait club - they have the most amazing photos to work from.

Welcome @Rebekah Murray, Bek ❤️ I smiled when I read your introduction because I think so many of us know that feeling of standing at the crossroads. You're in good company here. And your still life is beautiful.
