Negative Space
I have short bursts of dwelling on specific techniques to make things more interesting when I'm on the street and, after being prompted with an online tutorial by Alan Schaller, I'm now having a go at more Negative Space images. I was loitering under the walled arch of the local Abbey on Monday, where I would normally capture silhouettes through the gated entrance, when I saw this illuminated stone window frame throwing a bold shape onto the side wall. It's a very time-dependent composition with the orientation of the wall and the high sun, which I hadn't seen before. Using my standard street settings of 1/500sec, F8 and Auto ISO (@280), I dialed in -2EV (a setting I don't use very often) and captured this image after a couple of missed shots to get the timing correct for a centred person. Had to darken the lower right corner a bit because of the light coming in from the side to balance the image but otherwise I got the stark NS look that I wanted. I'm interested to see if others in this community try this technique ...

This is really cool, I'm going to keep my eye out for locations with these kinds of silhouettes. I wonder if you could tell a photo story with precisely timed shots
Hi everyone
Hi, I'm Steve, I'm a 60 year old professional laminate floor fitter from Northeast UK, I rekindled my love of photography last year after discovering street photography. Here are a couple of street shots, first one from earlier this year taken in New York, a black and white shot from York, UK, and an old shot from around 10 years ago before I even knew street photography was an actual thing. Hope you like and hopefully this will be an inspirational community.
