First listing is up. Here is what went wrong. https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/4577268639/all-about-my-coworker-coworker-favorite 1. I copied a competitor's category without checking it I put my listing in Art & Collectibles > Drawing & Illustration, because similar digital files were there. That category is for wall art. It asks you about frames and which room it hangs in. Plenty of buyers browse categories instead of searching, so I was invisible to all of them, and nothing tells you. Fix: check what the actual best sellers in your exact niche use. Mine were in Home & Living > Office. 2. My listing went live with zero tags I sent thirteen. Etsy accepted them and said success. It kept none. No error, no warning. I only caught it by opening my own listing and looking. Tags are how people find you. It would have sold nothing, and two months later I would have decided the product had failed, when really nobody could reach it. Fix: add tags as a separate step, then count how many actually stuck. 3. My price was not the price I set £1.50 to sit exactly on what buyers in my category actually pay. The listing showed £1.80, because the UK adds 20% VAT to digital downloads. I was 20% above where I meant to be and would never have seen it from my own spreadsheet. Fix: price the number the buyer sees. I set £1.25 so it displays as £1.50. 4. I designed a form with nowhere to write It is a questionnaire people fill in by hand. Every writing line had collapsed to about 1.5mm tall. It looked completely fine as code. Fix: render it and look at it. Three faults on that sheet were invisible until I actually saw the page. The thread running through all of it Three of these four never produced an error. The system said yes and quietly did something else. That is worse than a crash, because it hands you a wrong answer and lets you act on it. What I would tell anyone starting out: - Check the result, not the request. Read back what is actually there.
