SB1024 PASSED
CA Governor Gavin Newsom signed California Senate Bill 1024 into law on September 20, 2026, establishing up to 26 weeks of paid postpartum and recovery leave for active firefighting members Key Details of SB 1024 - Leave Duration: Eligible firefighters can receive up to 26 weeks of fully paid leave if disabled by pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions. - Eligibility Requirements: Applies to active firefighting members who have completed at least 1,250 hours of service with the fire department in the 12 months before the leave starts. - Compensation and Benefits: Leave is paid at the firefighter's regular rate of pay, and employment benefits continue to accrue during the entire absence. - Job Protection: Firefighters are guaranteed restoration to their prior position upon returning from leave. - No Exhaustion of Accrued Time: Departments cannot require firefighters to exhaust their paid sick leave, vacation, or compensatory time before or during the leave. I just missed this by 10 months!! 😅 Regardless this is a huge win not just for CA but for Female Firefighters Nationwide. The ball is officially rolling and other departments and states WILL follow suit. Reminder** you don't need an official state law in order for your department to have its OWN written policy! So start pressing this topic on your unions and your executive management. If you want any help, please let me know! I've been pushing these buttons for over two years at my agency and while we have no policy yet, I am in their ears, in their faces and I have seen improvements and changes in OTHER policies such as lactation accommodation. It's cominggggggggggg

Free stuff for you!
Hey! Happy.....Friday! (I totally had to look at my watch to see what day it was) I am excited to say, I have started a new Course in the classroom which will be full of free resources for you! This will be a growing library of free, practical resources for pregnant and postpartum athletes—designed to help you feel informed, confident, and supported throughout every stage of motherhood. Inside, you’ll find downloadable guides covering nutrition, trimester-specific considerations, movement modifications, core and pelvic floor support, postpartum recovery, return-to-training guidance, and more. Use these resources alongside your training to better understand what your body needs, modify movement when needed, and make informed decisions as you navigate pregnancy and postpartum. New resources will be added regularly—so check back often! Looking for something that's not there? Drop a comment and let me know what kind of resources you want and need! Let's make this library awesome. If you follow any of my programs you get access to me via a weekly check-in where I can review your programming, customize it based on your body, your pregnancy, your season of life, etc. These resources are just a taste of what I can offer as your coach.

Breastfeeding Supplement Stack!
I LOVE supplements. I think they are great and I get asked a lot about what I take while breastfeeding, so here’s my current lineup. 👇 One thing I always emphasize with my Built Different Mamas: supplements are the cherry on top—not the foundation. The foundation is enough FOOD, adequate protein + carbs + fats, HYDRATION, electrolytes, SLEEP/recovery *when possible*, and effective/frequent milk removal. I take these daily: 💊 Needed Prenatal I switched from the Prenatal PRO to this one. Still a prenatal, just smaller dosage. It’s my nutritional insurance policy while breastfeeding. It helps me cover important micronutrients and replenish nutrients while my body is supporting both me AND my baby. 🌿 Needed Stress Support I use this to support my body during a high-demand season. Postpartum + breastfeeding + work + training (and not sleeping/resting/recovering) is a LOT of physiological stress, so supporting recovery matters just as much as supporting performance. Hopefully one day I can sleep and rest but working full time for 48-72hrs a week with a 10mo old is just notttttt the time. 💪 Creatine — 5g/day One of my staples for strength, muscle recovery, training performance, and overall cellular energy. I never stopped taking this through TTC, pregnancy, and beyond. 💧 Redmond Re-Lyte Electrolytes Breastfeeding + sweating + training = increased fluid demands. Electrolytes help me stay hydrated and replace sodium and other electrolytes throughout the day. CODE: MAMAD I take these AS NEEDED: 🍼 Milkapalooza I’ve only taken this once or twice. It contains ingredients traditionally used as galactagogues (fancy word for milk production)— moringa, nettle, fennel, and shatavari. It can potentially boost supply and milk quality. 🌿 Pump Princess This is take more often. It’s a blend containing black seed, fennel, and dill. It helps promote my let down when I’m separated from my daughter and need to pump. 🌻 Sunflower Lecithin I use this to reduce my risk of clogged ducts. My boobies get confused when I combine breast feeding and pumping and this helps clear the ducts before they get infected (mastitis)

I took choline when I was pregnant. I eat a lot of eggs, salmon & beef and feel my choline intake via food is sufficient. And I also take magnesium for sleep! I forgot to mention that one. I chose brands and products if they are third party tested, heavy metal teated and have clean ingredients. Redmonds I chose because of the ingredients list, flavor options and it comes in a tub vs individual packets (like LMNT) Klean I get from my wife who is sponsored by that brand. I’m pretty sure I got ad targeted by legendairy based in my panic google searches about breast milk supply lol Needed was the most potent prenatal I could find that doesn’t have iron (I take iron separately)

Oh no I’m sorry! it’s such a puzzle and a time commitment. What worked for me: I pump after feeding in the morning and before bed. If I can get one additional pump session in during the day I try to do that as well. If my baby slept through the night, I pumped once over night 😵‍💫 When I am at work I try to pump as much as my baby feeds (or more). Every 3-4hrs for 20-30min to get about 30oz. It’s literally a full time job 🤪 hopefully that helps!
