I had to learn this the hard way, through life experiences, before I learned the science. We have 2 types of habits: The ones that help us: Expansive and habits that hurt us: Constricting And there’s one neurotransmitter powering both of them. Constricting Habits: Dopamine Expansive Habits: Dopamine This video breaks down exactly how dopamine runs the show when it comes to motivation, addiction, and behavior change. Btw… Dr. Anna Lembke, a Professor of Psychiatry at Stanford University, knows a lot more about the science of dopamine than me. However, I don’t think she has ever experienced drug addiction as I have. In any case, she is confirming what I’ve been teaching and her science and research is compelling. Dr. Anna Lembke explains that dopamine is the brain’s reward chemical—it drives us to seek pleasure, but in today’s world, we’re drowning in quick hits of it. Whether it’s food, alcohol, social media, food, or any other vice, constantly chasing pleasure actually throws our brains out of balance, making us less motivated, more anxious, and even addicted. She talks about how the solution isn’t to chase more highs but to reset our brain’s reward system by stepping back—what she calls "dopamine fasting." Taking a break from addictive behaviors (even for 30 days) allows the brain to recalibrate, reducing cravings and helping us regain control. btw... fasting for 48 hours resets your dopamine receptors. She also dives into how self-binding—creating barriers between ourselves and our temptations—can make breaking free from addiction or constricting habits easier. This is huge for anyone trying to overcome bad habits, step into their personal power, or rewire their mindset for success. Dopamine is at the core of everything—energy, focus, health and even financial success. If you master your dopamine, you master your life = True Freedom. This is true for every person who lives in a physical body. Dopamine matters. Give me a thumbs up if you care about your dopamine and comment if you feel courageous.
