It went well I was a bit flat for the first few song as I didn't warm up and I made a few mistakes here and there but just kept going as no one seemed to notice or care if they did the residents liked it a got a few requests which I didn't know so for this first one just kept to the set list and was an hour almost to the dot. I have another one tomorrow so see how that goes thanks everyone for the support and advice

Rosemount · Follow about an hour ago · What a lovely afternoon of music at Rosemount! We had Ron in singing for the first time at Rosemount, what a fantastic time we had! With loads of songs spanning the eras,a little bit of country thrown in for good measure,Ron had everyone joining in. There was something for everyone! There was plenty of singing along, tapping of feet and even a few people up dancing! A huge thank you to Ron for coming along and entertaining us. See less

@Andrew Henning thanks Andrew I really enjoyed myself
Sublime or ridiculous?
All channels talk about filling the repertoire with "bangers" - song that are recognisable, and have broad appeal across the world and different age groups. And audiences truly enjoy them - leave out "Brown-Eyed Girl" at your own peril. I've noticed how pub entertainers all play the same songs, and I've sometimes played bingo - ticking them off the checklist. Last night I watched someone play 12 of these core songs in a row, and it was all so predictable. Standards are useful, but I can't help but feel that a set only composed of bangers becomes a caricature of a gig. It's like having a magic power - it should be used wisely. How do you keep from sounding like everyone else, or a Spotify playlist?

Honestly this summer in a packed beer garden I heard a lady in her 50's playing Gangster's Paradise On the Uke the crowd loved it. so unexpected and the crowd joined in with the hook line.
Quiet night
so next week I have my first ever gigs coming up and I have been working on some songs and I thought I would go along to an open mic to try them out, when I got there apart from the host there was only me playing to 4 customers. the host asked me to play more I did about 35 minutes to in the end 1 customer and the bar man. anyone else played to such a large crowd 😄

Monday Check-In
Firstly, a quick heads up for everyone who's joined recently. This community is here for you to chat, ask questions and help each other at any time. I'm generally gigging Thursday through Sunday, so I'll naturally be a little less active in here over those days. Monday is when I emerge from the wreckage and catch up. 😂 Which brings me nicely to this weekend... Has anyone ever been playing a gig and had the venue turn the SPORT on through the actual PA while you were still performing? Not just TVs on around the room. I mean the commentary coming through the venue's sound system WHILE you're playing. That happened to me this weekend. I posted a Short about it and it got a lot of comments. Most people understood why I was pissed off, but a few suggested I should take it down because it wasn't my usual humorous take on gigging. I'm leaving it up. I love finding the funny side of this business, and most of the time I will. But I also want to keep things real. Sometimes something happens at a gig that's genuinely disrespectful to the performer, and humour isn't necessarily the right response. So I'm curious... Has anyone else had the venue PA competing with them WHILE they were actually playing? And what did you do?

Years ago while doing stand up comedy my buddy was in the middle of his act and the landlord switch the Mic and stage lights off, then with his own Mic behind the bar announced it was time for Bingo absolutely Brutal I was on once at a working mans club when they started putting joints on meat on the stage Beef Pork Hams etc for the meat draw that was to follow me I just said "I thought I was here to tell jokes I didn't realises I had to F##king feed them" I supposed you just have to roll with it
