JUST4PARENTS - ADVICE SECTION
Guys, I have been thinking… There are a lot of goalkeeper parents in this community, so I have decided to create a new section called Just4Parents. Over the years, I have laughed and cried with thousands of goalkeeper parents, so I truly understand how hard it can be to help your child on their goalkeeping journey. And please do not ever feel embarrassed by that. Goalkeeping is a very specialist position. Unless you have actually played in goal yourself, it can be very hard to fully understand what your child is going through, what they need, and the best way to support them. That is exactly why I have created this section. Once a week, I will post tips, advice, and support to help you better understand your goalkeeper child and help them move closer to their dreams. This will also be a place where parents can share their own experiences, support each other, and realise they are not alone. So if you are a parent of a goalkeeper and you need help, please post your questions in this section. We are here to help you. You do not have to go through this goalkeeper journey alone anymore. PS: Here are the most asked questions from parents over the years - I have answered via visa - https://j4ksports.com/pages/free-advice-for-parents

I became a goalkeeper with no training and just learnt by watching TV and being just a bit nuts. Now my son plays in goal it's amazing how much is out there to help them develop.
New Seasons / Trials / Approaches
Now it is coming to the end of the season, I see trials for "bigger" clubs coming out. My son has 2 trials coming up in the next few weeks and he has also been approached by another club to join them playing up a year. He is happy with the team that he is with but he is also very determined to progress and challenge himself. As a dad I just want him to enjoy the football. Has anyone had any experience of this and what to expect from these "trials" and how I can prepare him for them?

@José Carlos Cimorra it's great advice and want him to just enjoy It. At the moment he loves his club but also comes away feeling like he doesn't get the recognition as the team scores so many goals. At the end of the day. I just want him to enjoy it.

@Preston Oldfield this really helps. Thank you. I will pass this on to him. Really appreciate the detailed post.
A Disheartened keeper
We had a friendly last night after a 2 week break and Fred was peppered. He did some brilliant saves but when your defence isn't doing their job it is somehow the keepers fault. Freds defender & midfielder kept reminding Fred of the score and how many HE let in, after having this happen multiple times Freds head was not in the game. He was so disheartened and sad. Eventually he snapped and reminded each and every player that the ball had gotten past all 4 of them to get to him and he was alone, he also offered someone else the opportunity to go in goal if they thought it was that easy. After that Fred revved himself up and the team some how managed to draw 10-10 👏🏻 I was so proud he stood his ground and reminded his team that a goal is not just on him its everyone.

My son went through the same recently and he has since come out the other side. It is the hardest position to fill but a real true sign of a great keeper to dust himself down and carry on! Well done to him!
