How long before license was received?
Hey all. I passed my Florida auctioneers exam Jan. 29th. As of today, I still have not received my license. I called and they said I should receive it “at the end of the week”….. two weeks ago and again today. Just curious – how long did it take to get yours in hand? P.S. And no- they are not delaying it because of my name. 🤣 I have a FL real estate license as well and had a super fast turn around.

Does the licensing department allow you to log in and view your license number? If so then you can do that and print out a copy of that to have for a temporary license. The DPOR here in Virginia allows us to do that. That's what I did until my license came in the mail.

@Marijuana Vandyck Okay, it shouldn't be much longer my friend. Maybe you can give them a call.
Nonverbal Communication is the most important part!
One thing we don’t practice much is our body language. I found this recently and thought I needed to share this: You’ll usually hear “93% of communication is nonverbal.” That number is widely quoted—and widely misunderstood. Here’s the accurate breakdown. Where the 93% comes from The figure comes from research by Albert Mehrabian, who studied communication only when emotions or attitudes conflict with words. In those specific situations, he found: - 55% body language - 38% tone of voice - 7% words 55 + 38 = 93% nonverbal What that does not mean It does not mean: - 93% of all communication is nonverbal - Words don’t matter - Content is irrelevant If you’re giving directions, teaching math, or explaining a contract, words matter a lot. The real takeaway (and the useful one) - Words carry information - Tone and body language carry meaning - When words and nonverbal cues conflict, people trust the nonverbal That’s why someone can say “I’m fine” and no one believes them. Practical version (especially for stages, meetings, and fundraising) In persuasive, emotional, or leadership communication: - Nonverbal cues often matter more than the exact words - Confidence, pacing, eye contact, posture, and vocal energy drive trust - Words without congruent nonverbal delivery lose power This is why it is so important to video your performances and practice in front of a mirror a few times a week. You have to be purposeful in those movements!

@Tiffany Works Yep, that's right! I was doing voiceover recording in a studio once and I had my voiceover coach telling me to smile more, and we were connected by phone so I could hear him in my headphones, he was in another state about 500 miles away, and he could tell if I was smiling or not.

@Tiffany Works That's really good training for that.
What is Passion? Is it worth it?
Passion...what is it and why is it important in your journey. It's not about just finding that passion, but living it, thriving in it and being willing to suffer for it. So what is yours?

Passion is the fuel that keeps us going in whatever we do in life. A passion for auctioneering keeps me practicing my auction chant every single day, also every musician must have a passion and an obsession for music in order to have the drive and desire to always improve and perfect the craft, and that is that way, and has to be for us as auctioneers.
Inexpensive Advertising
I have a question about advertising and getting my auction company's name out there so I can get some gigs and more clients, but right now I have very little money to spend, I have business cards that I hand out every chance I get and I leave business cards with antique dealers and antique malls. What is out there that I can use to market my company? I've also used social media, but I'm not real fond of social media. I need better.

I compiled a little list of chopped words that I've learned from auctioneers along the way. If you'd like.

@Bobby D. Ehlert Chopped words I've learned from some auctioneers that they chop the words to get the professional auctioneer sound and certain filler words start to flow out that way naturally. Here's a little list: The word Down becomes Done. Dollar becomes Dotter as in Dotter now or Dotter bidder now Buy Them becomes Bime Do you want it becomes D'ya wan it Would you give becomes Wo da give or Wo da gid Bid to buy them at becomes Bidda bime at Get them at becomes Get 'em at I'm going to bid becomes I'm mona bid Bid them on becomes Bid a bomb And to buy them becomes An to bime It's a whole different language for us as auctioneers.
