For the New Moon / Equinox I set the intention to go tech free in the morning, woke up and did my meditation, made breakfast, went on a walk to enjoy the oddly hot March, ran a lap around Sugarhouse Park and then picked up my phone for the first time of the day at 11:45. My nervous system felt fantastic! I had space, gratitude and patience for the chaos going on. I will be continuing this practice for the next quarter! I'm grateful Cassidy suggested some insights on the nervous system for an instagram post for the mens group, here are the 7 slides. Wendell Berry wrote about “the peace of wild things” — that quiet place in nature where the body finally unclenches and the mind stops bracing for impact. Most men don’t realize their nervous system is starving for that same kind of peace. Not escape. Not weakness. Not checking out. But a return to the part of you that remembers how to breathe before the world taught you to hold your breath. When your jaw is tight, when your chest feels armored, when your reactions come faster than your intentions, that’s your nervous system asking for the stillness Berry described. Regulation isn’t therapy‑speak. It’s training. It’s discipline. It’s the quiet strength of a man who can’t be easily provoked because he knows how to return to center. This is the work. Not to become softer, but steadier. Not to become passive, but precise. Not to run from the world, but to meet it with a regulated body and a clear mind. If you’re ready to build that kind of calm, the kind that holds up under pressure, you’re in the right place. Kaizen Men’s Group Small steps. Steady improvement. A stronger nervous system, one breath at a time.
