@David Humphrey suggested clamshells with PC, then fruit, then covered. I took it a step further. I fed only in the middle of the bin with worm chow and mixed it up through the whole middle. Then drilled holes on the sides and bottom of my cottage cheese containers and "buried" them in the middle. Small layer of pc, then bananas, then some of their castings with food. We'll see if this gets some worm ball action - which will make sifting easier when I get back.
@Jason Evans is! He sent me a package... Seriously, I LOVE this. With digital cash apps, it's hard to save the first dollar. This is SO much better. I'll never be jonesing for a drink and steal the dollar! :)
After scaring poor @David Humphrey to death on his birthday - entirely accidentally - Bin There Worm Farm is happy to report that despite months of castings challenges, we have managed to sift out almost 17 full gallons of beautiful castings!!! And I have 4 more bins to sift tomorrow. In other news, I am facing my fears and using a fan tonight to get those 4 dried out so I can leave on vacation Tuesday morning... We'll see how it works. David says it'll be fine. I wonder how vengeful he truly is...
@Cherene Packard you bet! I have over 17 gallons now and more to sift when I get back. Working on an idea I have for a free, reusable bait trap so they're easier to deal with when i return. It's a take-off from @David Humphrey 's idea.
@Cherene Packard I took cottage cheese containers and drilled holes on the bottom and sides. Put pc, then fruit, then pc to cover it. I'll bury it a bit as well. I also only put worm chow in the middle of the bin and mixed it in with the dirt. I'll put the bait trap in the middle as well.
Whoa! Things are going crazy! I was working at our Master Gardener Discover Garden and there were some folks taking a guided tour. They stopped by our Worm Resort as I was checking all of our demonstration bins. We chatted and found out they have a worm bin at home. We chatted some more and they invited me to come to their community garden club at their local church to do a presentation. Again, what is so crazy is how the opportunities to teach about vermicomposting lets us all know that people what to learn. I may have to clone myself. Ha, ha, ha, ha.
