EVERYONE LOVES ART - even if they don't know it...
There was a time when I would earn $100 to $200 in a few hours selling my poetry (poems) in some of the toughest, meanest, most intimidating bars / offices / environments you have ever seen. Take a moment, think about that scenario - a poet - some poems - a room full of 100 pretty scary strangers in drunken party mode, or work mode and me - sometimes selling as much poetry as I could carry in the door. I supported myself as a young artist doing that for years. $300 to $500 a week in the 1980s, as a lone poet. That amount of money was off-the-chart good for any poet in the country at that time, and it kept me in ink and paper and coffee. But more importantly, it taught me that "Everyone loves art." Even if they are a. 6.5 foot, 300 pound, tough, truck driving, hard living bulldog of a man, looking for a fight. Deep, deep down people are pussycats when faced with something BEAUTIFUL. They can be reduced to tears, and turned from a menacing threat into a fan/customer/art lover. This is not theory. I've lived it, seen it many, many times. I've watched someone's eyes darken, listened to them say, "NO! I'm not interested, I'm busy right now, don't have time for this..." And I learned that none of that was really true - it was all a cover for the fear of being embarrassed, or because they knew they didn't have very much money, or, or, or. None of these excuses have anything to do with the art in front of them. In fact, 9 times out of 10 I would find that once someone actually took the time, focused their attention, had a real conversation about the work (the art) they would end up loving this piece, or that one. All I had to do was make it safe, make it OK for them to LOOK, to see the work without fear, or concern of any kind. When it comes to people and art It all comes down to UNDERSTANDING: the Billionaire, the stay-at-home mom, truck driver, and the hardened gang member in a prison cell all need and want something beautiful, something totally honest and truthful in their life - a song that speaks to them, a kids drawing, some cool dance steps, or a painted masterpiece - everyone loves art.

@Marieke Mertz Glad it reached you, Marieke. It really did happen just like that. Now, "Marieke" - what an unusual, lovely name. How is it pronounced - does it have a meaning of some kind?

How I Sold Almost All my Art in 2 Months - by letting Spirit Guide Me
As artists, we often focus on creativity in our work, but what about in how we run our businesses? While structure and strategy are essential, sometimes stepping outside the box and embracing the creative flow in unexpected ways can lead to incredible results. What I’m about to share may sound unconventional—even surprising to some—but I hope it inspires you to trust your own intuition in both art and business. Since Christmas, my life has taken an unexpected yet beautifully guided turn. I made the decision to leave the east coast island of Newfoundland, my home for 14 years, to move halfway across Canada and support my 92 year-old father after a sudden decline in his health. This transition is one of trust, love, and new beginnings. As part of this shift, I'll be taking a hiatus from my art for a while to help my father declutter and eventually sell his home. Rather than storing or shipping my paintings, I was inspired to launch a ‘Make Me An Offer’ Moving Sale, allowing Spirit to guide the right people to each piece. This was more than a sale; it was an intuitive, heart-led exchange—an opportunity for longtime fans to bring my work into their lives at a price they could afford, while others stepped forward to offer full value in deep support of my transition. A group of local religious sisters even bought three pieces at full price! To make this work, I committed to a full-on 5-week energetic push on my blog / newsletter, social media, with daily posts, videos, and more. It was a lot of work and stretched me in many ways. It caused me to grow, step outside of my comfort zones, and let go of my ego as I trusted the process and the flow of inspiration. The results have been astounding. In just two months, I’ve sold nearly all of my artwork, bringing in more than my net income from last year—and many years past. The decisions on where each painting went weren’t based on the amount of the offer, but on the guidance of my pendulum, making blind selections to ensure each piece landed where it was meant to be. Some of my smallest paintings sold for more than larger ones—each to the right person. The process has been liberating, abundant, and full of love & synchronicities—an affirmation that trusting the flow brings unimaginable blessings.
