What happens when you sit all day
Most people think sitting is neutral. It’s not. Your body is constantly adapting to the position you spend the most time in. And for most people… that’s sitting. What happens when posture collapses? • Pelvis loses stability • Spine rounds and compresses • Shoulders fall forward This isn’t just how it looks It changes how your body functions What follows next: • Breathing becomes shallow • Diaphragm loses efficiency • Circulation and lymph slow down • Nervous system shifts toward stress Over time, this becomes: • Neck and back discomfort • Hip stiffness • Lower energy • Reduced movement capacity Here’s the shift Sitting isn’t the problem 👉 How you sit determines the outcome Apply this right now As you’re reading this: • Feel your feet on the ground • Gently press your heels down • Exhale and engage your core • Keep breathing while holding that Now pause… 👉 What changed? What you just did You changed the input to your system That small heel drive creates tension through fascial lines which helps organize: • Your pelvis • Your spine • Your breathing Same chair Same desk Completely different body This is the idea Posture isn’t something you hold It’s something you create moment to moment Your takeaway You don’t need more time You need better input in what you already do 💬 Drop a comment: What did you feel when you tried it? It does work. It's hard to be mindful about this. Thanks Dean.
Why This Matters
This work matters to me because I’ve seen what happens when the body is not supported properly. Not just in others but in myself. Pain, tension, dysfunction they don’t just come from one place. They build over time through how we sit, stand, breathe, and move every day. What changed everything for me was realizing this: Posture is not just about how you look. 👉 It directly affects your health. When posture collapses: • Breathing becomes shallow • The diaphragm can’t move efficiently • Oxygen intake decreases This shifts the body into a more stressed state. Research shows that: • Poor posture can reduce lung capacity • Shallow breathing increases stress response • Lack of core engagement affects spinal support On the other side: When posture is organized: • Breathing becomes deeper • The nervous system begins to calm • Movement becomes more efficient This is where GEM comes in. Ground Engage Maintain It gives the body a simple way to organize itself throughout the day. This is not about fixing your body once. It’s about supporting it daily so it can function the way it’s designed to. Pay attention to your posture today. Not to force it but to notice it.

Just the other day I was having brunch with friends and all of a sudden sat up straight, they asked why and I told them about GEM and they followed suit. It's hard to stay aware or notice your posture but it feels great when you do.
