What’s going on everybody, my name is Reginald “MAILMANN” Jenkins, founder of Cant Stop Music. Music has been a part of my life for as far back as I can remember — literally. One of my earliest memories was around 2 years old sitting on my aunt’s porch in Jackson, Mississippi, banging on a keyboard with absolutely no rhythm and no clue what I was doing. I just knew something about music connected to my spirit. At the time I didn’t fully understand why music felt so deeply rooted in me, but as I got older, it all started making sense. I come from a family filled with music. My aunt can sing amazingly, and my mother can sing beautifully as well. I still remember my mom singing “Michael Row the Boat Ashore” to me as a child, and one of my favorite church songs has always been “Nobody Told Me the Road Would Be Easy… I Don’t Believe He Brought Me This Far to Leave Me.” Those moments stayed with me for life. As a kid, groups like Kris Kross inspired me and opened my imagination to becoming an artist myself. I remember telling one of my friends, “Let’s start our own group — you do all the rapping, I’ll just be in the group!” 😂 I didn’t even know what role I wanted yet. I just knew I wanted to be connected to music somehow. Later on, my older cousin became another major influence on me through music. I remember hanging around him while he worked on songs and projects, and honestly, I would’ve been happy just being on the front of the CD cover artwork as a kid. Just hearing him say “yeah” and making me feel included meant the world to me. As time went on, I became inspired not only by artists, but by the BUSINESS of music. Watching Master P and Cash Money showed me that ownership was possible. They showed me you could build your own movement, your own label, your own vision, and not wait for permission from the industry. Now here I am at 44 years old — over 40 years after first touching those keys as a child — and no matter what direction life has taken me, music has always remained a part of me. I always come back to it. Always.
