Dec 19: Focus on Christ and Eternal Rewards.
Philippians 3:13-14 But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and reaching forward to what is ahead, I pursue as my goal the prize promised by God's heavenly call in Christ Jesus (vv.13b-14). Before my accident in 2009, I had decided to run a 5K race. The first few minutes felt great, but as I got deeper into the race, distractions became overwhelming --- fatigue set in, my legs and lungs began to burn, and every steo felt harder than the last. But I had one rule: Keep your eyes fixed ahead, looking to the finish line. If I looked around too much, I'd slow down. If I focused on the pain, I'd quit. But when I locked in on my goal, I found the strength to keep moving forward. Once I focused, the race wasn't as tough for me mentally. I'm not sure if Paul had to run a 5K like I did, but he gave us the same strategy for our spiritual journey in today's verse. Paul focused on reaching forward to what is ahead.. Paul understood that distractions --- past failures, regrets, or even past successes --- could pull him away from what really mattered. Instead of getting stuck in the past orlost in the present, he chose to focus on Christ and the eternal prize ahead. How easy is it for us to be stuck in the past or lost in the present? We're bombarded by distractions --- temptations, worries, busyness, and the pull of success. And if we're not careful, we can spend our lives chasing things that don't last instead of pursuing what truly matters. I challenge you to take inventory of your life. How much of your attention is focused on things that don't really matter? Staying focused on Christ means letting go of what holds you back and setting your sights on what lies ahead. It means making daily decisions that keep you moving toward Him. Where is your focus today? Are you caught up in regrets? Distracted by temporary things? Fix your eyes on Jesus and run with endurance the life He has called you to live. Lord Jesus, help me to press forward toward the prize You have set before me and not get distracted by things that don't matter. Amen.
