🎵 Introducing Ask Mat
Learning music is so much easier when you have someone to ask. That’s why I’m introducing a new weekly feature inside our community… 🎵 Ask Mat Every Friday, I’ll answer your music questions. Whether you’re learning piano, guitar, bass, ukulele, drums, singing, or any other instrument, you’re welcome to join in. You can post: 🎹 Videos of your playing 🎵 Recordings you’re working on 📖 Reading music questions 🎼 Chord charts and lead sheets 👂 Ear training questions 🎵 Music theory 🎹 The Easy Key Method Or anything else that’s helping—or frustrating—you on your musical journey. Simply leave your question, video, recording or photo in the comments below throughout the week. Then, every Friday, I’ll personally jump in and answer as many questions as I can. No question is too simple. One of the wonderful things about this community is that we’re all learning together. Feel free to help each other in the comments as well. You never know—your question might be exactly what someone else needed to hear. I’m looking forward to seeing what you’re working on. Let’s make some music! 🎶

@Veerle Mertens Hi Veerle I found your question interesting. Did you mean how does one put the rhythm onto the keyboard, or what rhythm does the pop song follow, which can be determined by listening to the song on the internet I am not a piano player, but using a piano as a keyboard accompaniment to singing, I usually play the chord with my left hand and a chord with the right hand, or an octave, or parts of the melody. Can play both hands together or in an alternating rhythm. I look forward to hearing from you and reading Mat's explanation.

@Mathew Creedon Creating a post under the Community tab stays in the Community arena rather than under My Musical Journey in the Classroom tab. Is this what you intended Mat? I wonder whether the Admin sees different options to what the student sees. I didn't see create Post under Community tab Sorry about the delays. We are dealing with an 8 hour time zone difference.
🎉 New Community Space: Your Musical Journey 🎵
I’m excited to introduce a brand new space in our school called Your Musical Journey. One of the greatest joys of music is sharing it with others. Whether you’re picking up an instrument for the very first time or you’ve been making music for decades, this is a place to celebrate your progress, encourage one another, and enjoy the journey together. This isn’t about perfection. It’s about courage. It’s about curiosity. It’s about taking one small step after another. I’d love to see this become a place where we can all share: 🎸 Practice sessions 🎹 New songs 🎤 Performances 🎼 Original compositions 🎧 Recordings 💡 Musical discoveries 🎉 Little wins along the way No achievement is too small. Sometimes simply picking up your instrument after a busy week is a victory worth celebrating. I’ve created this space because I believe music is meant to be shared, and I can’t wait to watch this community inspire one another. Come and introduce yourself whenever you’re ready—I look forward to seeing your musical journey unfold. https://www.skool.com/mat-creedon-school-of-music-4248/classroom/c9543222?md=98c3c56d56f5410fa90c5d33d036a688 Happy music making! — Mat 🎵

@Mathew Creedon Thanks Mat. But no opening to add a post on that page/space...

Thanks Mat. On my end, when I go to the Community tab, at the top, the window says Write something, not Create Post. I can then select Share Your Musical Journey. I will try to create a post and see if it works... Stay well !!
What to Practice
Hello All. I need to know what to practice. I feel lost when I sit down to the piano.

Hi Jennifer. How accoumplished are you at present? Can you read sheet music? Do you play by ear? Do you have any music or songs that you really like to hear or sing, That's why Mat guides you through the process in this school. 1 choose 3 songs you really like; songs that have meaning for you or stir you emotionally. 2 Analyse them; key, structure etc 3 Start with a verse or chorus and work out melody and chords. Then slowly put it together. 😀 Playing through some scales is always good. Good finger practice; one octave; two octaves; both hands together.

📚 The Mat Creedon Easy Key Method Is Now Available!
I’m excited to share that The Mat Creedon Easy Key Method is now available for all members to download completely free. This book is the culmination of many years of teaching, performing, composing, and helping students discover that music is far simpler than most people have been led to believe. Rather than memorising endless rules, the goal of this book is to help you understand the patterns that connect scales, chords, melodies, rhythm, and harmony into one simple system. Whether you play piano, guitar, bass, voice, ukulele, violin, or another instrument entirely, the principles in this book are designed to help you understand music from the inside out. 📥 Download the book here: https://www.skool.com/mat-creedon-school-of-music-4248/classroom/03018c87?md=0babb53e3d2d415da61405526744b868 The download includes: 📄 PDF Version Perfect for printing, music notation, diagrams, and desktop computers. 📱 EPUB Version Perfect for phones, tablets, Apple Books, adjustable text sizing, and interactive glossary features. 🎹 Want to use the Easy Key alongside the book? Build your own free DIY Easy Key here: https://www.skool.com/mat-creedon-school-of-music-4248/classroom/653cd9e8?md=173a2428770d452abe34ead27fd1468c Or explore the professionally printed Easy Key Minis here: https://www.matcreedon.com/easy-key A note about learning: Please don’t feel that you need to read this book from beginning to end in one sitting. Music is a language. The goal is not to memorise everything. The goal is to gradually become familiar with the patterns that musicians use every day. Take your time. Experiment. Play. Ask questions. And most importantly, enjoy the process. I’d love to hear from you once you’ve had a chance to explore the book:

@Mat Creedon Thanks Mat. Great resource !! I have already digested some of it in what you have already posted in the classroom. I hope you don't mind. While scanning through the book, I came across this page and saw the error immediately. Testimony to your method of numbers and patterns:-) I'll include a screen shot here. I hope I didn't get it wrong...?

@Mathew Creedon Maybe I am missing something, but don't think so. For the top example, the number 5 on the keyboard should be on the G key, not the F. This agrees with the notes on the stave. Is that correct? Sus2 chord...
