Music with Cosmic Horror Themes
Hello everyone! I was just wondering what songs/albums involving cosmic horror y’all enjoy listening to. Pictured is an assortment of records in my collection that either 1) serve as the OST to a CH or CH-adjacent film, 2) feature CH visual aesthetics, or 3) contain lyrics that delve into CH themes. I think another (unpictured) record that fits the bill is Jim Sullivan’s “U.F.O” (1969), which is a folk rock album that frequently references mysterious, disappearing towns and extraterrestrial visitors. “U.F.O.” is made all the stranger by the fact that Sullivan disappeared permanently one night in the New Mexican desert, without leaving behind so much as a trace.

Ah I actually have something to contribute, I have an album in mind "Perdition City by Ulver" that though it doesn't specifically allude to CH, the feelings it gives resonate with a feeling of wrongness, of something happening, something unraveling that you can't quite pin point but you can feel closing in around you. https://youtu.be/AUQpHPPbdCI?si=2pX7_bg7UwPs9obp They're a Norwegian Black metal band from the 90s that experimented with all sorts of different genres, this album in particular is a mix of Ambient Electronica with somewhat Jazzy undertones and I've never quite heard of anything else like it since. Might be up your alley and certainly worth a listen to

Hello New friends, Allow me to present my first Contribution
So I read this webtoon called Witch Creek Road a long long time ago, and it left it's mark in me so deep that I still randomly think of it to this day. It starts out as a campy b-list horror movie (a la any 90s slasher flick) but it very quickly turns to cosmic horror and showcases that it's not just some mindless beat for beat story. It's very much so a labor of love and surprisingly well written (not to mention funny). It has a main plot but the whole series could be seen as an anthology of smaller stories all happening in the same area at roughly the same time or times all leading up to something big. So if you like Lovecraftian Monsters, the breaking of Realities, or jumping between moments in Time give it look. https://www.webtoons.com/en/horror/witch-creek-road/list?title_no=1453

@Caleb L. Haha yeah I certainly wasn't really expecting it to suddenly appear either, always more fun when it takes us for a loop as well as the characters
What’s your favorite way to enjoy cosmic horror?
I just picked up The Fisherman by John Langan after seeing it recommended underneath a YouTube video. Only a few chapters in but it’s giving me the same early setup vibes as the book 14 by Peter Clines. Excited to keep digging in. Got me thinking, what’s your favorite way to enjoy cosmic horror stuff? For me it’s hard to choose. I think I love the video game medium most because of the interaction but love movies like Annihilation and The Lighthouse. Share a few of your favorites!

I just looked up The Fisherman on audible and it sounds like it'll actually be interesting, Once I finish the book I'm on right now I think I'll go ahead and start this one up, should help work go by. As for favorite way I gotta say I lean pretty heavy towards the written way, whether it be books or comic or what have you when you read something your brain does a lot of work to create said thing in your head. And your brain is only constrained by how much it can imagine and that's something that most media just can't hold a candle to. It's just like when you have a super vivid dream that you know would be amazing to get to watch and never being able to, you can literally feel it slip away from your awareness. But yeah, so Cosmic horror especially leads itself to work very well with settling directly into your mind and books have the best way at painting and weaving worlds into your mind

Hello everyone I'm Ranza and what I do for work isn't important. I honestly don't remember what got me specifically into cosmic horror, but I've always had a strong curiosity towards things that were beyond what I knew. No matter what I'm presented with I'll always try to dissect and understand it, so whenever I was presented with something that was outside of the norm I'd immediately dive into it and try to figure out how it might work. I'm 100% the sort of person to jump into the abyss to see what's down there and when I come back if I'm not quite myself anymore or bring something back with me, all the better. I believe there's a whole world of things out there just waiting for us to stumble across them. I think anything can be possible if we just figure out what rule set we gotta play with before we can sit at the table
