Ive added a new chapter 1 as a prologue to better setup the story and theme I’m about to tell. It’s the characters silent monologue in his head and him about to enter a memory sequence that kicks off the story. I still haven’t finished the monologue and made it flow into the memory sequence 🤷🏽‍♂️

A novel a year is crazy work. This is great!

I like to write and let the story flow in order. Other times I like to write my favorite scenes when I start off then figure out how to piece them all together like a puzzle 😊

Havent done a prompt in a while so i gave this a go: His thoughts are deafening. Sitting on the cold hard slabs. It is night. Or is it day? He could not tell. Nor could he tell you how long he had been there. Darkness clouded him all hours. Open or closed. His eyes could not tell the difference. And the silence. The silence was worse. It wrapped around him. Squeezing his skull with its thick emptiness. How he wished for a voice, a chirp, a pebble, even a footstep to cut through the suffocating silence. Sometimes he would tap his finger against the wall or grunt or scream. For that second, sound returned to his world. Once his fingers grew tired and his voice dry, sound would get swallowed back into the eternal silence. Yet all that he heard was his thoughts barraging and bullying him. Fool! Imbecile! How could you not have seen it?! Trusting Danglars when he wanted you out of the way! Now here you are, stuck in this prison till you wither and die!” A constant cycle of abuse he could not escape. A cycle that the silence protected. Like a trained guard standing sharp next to a hamster wheel, ensuring the wheel never slows. And the abuse never ends. Fool! Say goodbye to your life! Your home! Your family! Imbecile! Idiot! Suddenly a memory of his past life pierced through the wheel. A ballroom. The dance. The smell of jasmine and lilies. A blue sky dress. Her bright eyes beaming as she asked, “Will you return to me?” “I will, Mercedes.” He rasped. A word he whispered hoping the silence would not swallow it. “I will, Mercedes”, He said again like a holy prayer. And then, his prayer was answered. A cell door opened. A warm lamp light pushed the darkness out. The thick silence had fallen to chatter, laughs and boots clacking on the slab pavement. Two uniformed guards stood tall before him in his crouched corner. “Alright Dantes, we’ll let you join the rest of the prisoners for chow if you’re willing to act right.” Dantes looked at them both as if God had stood before him and smiled his dirty teeth,
