I love the way Jake and Caleb teach and explain things. Was wondering if anyone knew if they had any videos on this topic. Or can anyone help explain the difference between multiband compression and dynamic EQ? And more importantly, when you would use each one?

I learned a lot from the Intro to Mastering event, but one of the things Caleb was talking about was adding 3db of gain into your last limited and seeing 3db of gain reduction. What is the reason behind this? What does it mean if I add 3db of gain and I’m seeing more than 3db of gain reduction/how would I fix that? Less than 3db of gain reduction he said was fine. Just curious on what is the reason behind this and if it is going slightly over 3db what I would need to do to fix it if that’s a bad thing.

I have learned a lot from Fix-The-Mix but I am a very methodical person and would prefer a set order of operations when mixing. In one of the videos I watched, Jake approached the mix by addressing each frequency range, starting with low end then going to mid range then high end. In other videos he just jumps right in and just addresses the problems that he heard from the listen through in no particular order. Then in the most recent one he started with vocals first for some reason (which I didn’t like lol). Definitely noticed that spatial processing is always after everything is fixed and enhanced. That being said, does anybody have a preferred method of operations? For example, should I do things in waves (address frequencies for all the tracks, then address dynamics for all tracks)? Should I go by frequency range (address frequencies & dynamics in low end, then move to mid range, then high end)? I like structure and I feel like the workflow is too messy/unorganized if I just try to mix based on what ever problems I’m hearing and write down. Would really love to hear anyone’s recommendations. Trying to watch more videos to see Jake’s typical workflow but he seems to change it up

When installing acoustic panels, should they be flat to the wall (no space between the wall and panel) or do I leave some space between the wall and panel? Or does it not matter?

Was just looking through Fix The Mix events and the How To Master Your Music 6 hour course and they have SoundID on their Stereo Output chain, but don’t have the plug-in activated. Is there a reason for this?
