✍️ Simple Structure for Writing Emotional Chapters (Without Spiraling)
One of the biggest fears I hear from memoir writers is: “I want to write honestly… but I don’t want to fall apart while doing it.” Here’s a structure I teach that helps you write emotionally without drowning in the emotion. I call it The Anchor–Wave–Integration Method. 1️⃣ Anchor (Start grounded) Before you write a single sentence, anchor yourself in the present. This can be: ✅ Noticing your feet on the floor 👣 ✅ Taking three slow breaths 🧘‍♀️ ✅ Writing one sentence about where you are now ✍️ This tells your nervous system: I’m safe. I’m here. I’m not reliving this. ❤️ 2️⃣ Wave (Enter the memory, not the spiral) Now write the scene. Not the whole life story, this is just one moment. Focus on: ✅ What you saw 👀 ✅ what your body felt ✅ what changed in that moment Stay in the experience, not the meaning yet. If emotion rises, let it move through you. Don’t chase it. 3️⃣ Integration (Zoom out)End the chapter by stepping back. Ask: ✅ What do I understand now that I didn’t then? ✅ How did this moment shape who I became? ✅ Why does this matter to the reader? 📖 This is where your wisdom lives. This is what keeps the chapter from feeling raw for the sake of being raw. ✨ Why this works ✅ You stay regulated ✅ The writing feels powerful, not chaotic ✅ The reader feels held, not overwhelmed ✅ Your story gains clarity and purpose If you want help applying this directly to your story, I walk through this method step-by-step in my program and help you map it to your own chapters. Or join Clarity to Book Arc workshop where I use some tools to help you gain that much needed clarity when writing! ✍️ 👉 DM me “workshop” if you want the link. Or let me know in the comments! And if you want, drop a comment below: What’s one chapter you’ve been avoiding writing and why?

I don’t have a story-yet, but I can already tell this feels like a therapy ! Writing heals both the one who writes and the one who reads. Truly inspiring!
