What are you planting right now that isn't for harvest, it's just to feed the soil?
Real quick one today... Some gardeners plant a cover crop at the end of the season. Nothing you'll ever pick or eat. It just goes in so the soil is richer come spring. I don't do it in my own garden yet, but I keep thinking about the idea. Most of us were taught that if it's not producing, it's wasted. But some of the best things you do this fall won't look like progress. They'll just be feeding what comes next. Drop a word below... what are you planting right now that isn't for harvest, it's just to feed the soil?

Well first to mind is my compost pile, gives back to the land and sometimes some cool volunteers give me a gift. To speak for myself this time of year is very transitional so I try to be very mindful to be gentle and kind to myself and take in all of the amazing pageantry playing out around me. And J yes must agree on the REST!
You’re not too much. You’re a highly sensitive person.
For most of my life, I didn’t have a word for it. Feeling everything. Noticing the mood in a room before anyone spoke. Needing quiet after a day that seemed “fine” to everyone else. Being told I was too sensitive, like it was something to fix. So I learned to make myself smaller in a room and push my own needs aside, starting when I was young. Then one day, it all started to catch up with me. There’s a name for it: Highly Sensitive Person, or HSP. Psychologist Dr. Elaine Aron named it in the 1990s, and her research suggests about 15–20% of people are wired this way. Finding that word was like finding the plant tag! You can grow for years without one, guessing at what you need. Too much sun, not enough water, wondering why you wilt where others thrive. Then you find the tag, and it all makes sense. You weren’t failing. You just didn’t know what kind of plant you were. And here’s what nobody told me: it’s not a flaw. A more sensitive smoke detector catches the fire early. That’s us. We notice first and feel what others miss. That’s why I built this community, and the resources and classes growing with it, so we can stop making ourselves smaller and find the gift in how we’re made. Does “highly sensitive” fit you? Tell me in the comments, even if all you write is “yes, this is me.”

It's my superpower!!!
You're not messy. You're leaving the leaves for a reason.
Every fall, someone walks past a yard full of leaves and thinks it looks neglected. But look closer. Once the cold really sets in, the insects tuck themselves into those leaves for winter. The pollinators that will show up next spring are sleeping in there. The soil is getting fed. The whole place is quietly working. A little cleanup early in the season is fine. Clear your path, tidy what needs tidying. I do it too. But when the cold arrives, I leave the rest. I used to feel like I had to rake it all, bag it, and make it look "done" so nobody would think I'd let things go. Then I learned the mess was doing a job. Some of us are like that too. We need slow days, unfinished days, days that don't look like much from the outside. We get called lazy or messy or "not very productive." But something is being protected under there, and it's the part that makes the next season possible. You're not falling behind. You're leaving the leaves. 🍂 What's something you've been calling "messy" that might actually be protecting something?

My mind, it was distracted for so long trying to please everything and everyone cuz this broken world had me thinkin something was wrong with me and that's what I had to do to fit.Not until I focused on the mess in my mind and what it was protecting did I start to feel whole.
What are you leaning toward right now?
Real quick one today... Autumn's properly here now, and the sun's pattern is already shifting with it. Plants pick up on that before we ever consciously notice, and they lean toward the light that's actually available to them, not the light they had in July. We do something similar, even if it's less obvious. The season changing often means our bodies want different foods, different paces, different kinds of rest. Leaning into that instead of fighting it isn't giving up on summer. It's just following the actual light you've got right now. Drop a word below... what are you leaning toward as the season shifts, whether that's a food, an activity, or just a different pace?

Oh and making my homemade bread!! Nothing beats it!
You're not giving up on it. You're letting it go to seed.
Can we talk about the word "quitting" for a second? You've probably felt it... like walking away from something means you failed at it. Here's the thing... at the end of a plant's season, gardeners let the last blooms go to seed on purpose. Not because the plant did anything wrong, but because that ending is what makes the next season possible at all. You're not giving up. You're just letting this season finish so the next one has something to grow from. Drop a 🌱 if you've ever needed permission to let something end.
