Hey Karime! Here are some things to think about and try! From your dog’s point of view, it’s looks a lot like this: 1. NIBBLE MOM 2. Get a toy 😈 Teething on humans is a great opportunity for you to start introducing boundaries, just like adult dogs have with each other. To set a boundary, make the consequence of nibbling on you obvious. For example, you put her down and disengage from play; you stop petting her, stand up, and become very quiet for 10-20 seconds. Disengagement is your tool here to show her what’s right and wrong. To encourage good behavior, be more calm when you’re handling her, giving her more opportunities to practice some impulse control in those situations. The more excited you are with her, the harder it is for her to have impulse control- and she needs it to stop nibbling on you! Start handling her in more calm ways than not, and save the excited interactions for toys! For example, pet her with a soft voice; practice picking her up for shorter periods of time. When she makes a good choice, reward with Yes! and play with her with toys! When you do want to play and engage with her, make all the fun about toys. Get toys of different textures and hardness (fabric vs silicone) and initiate play sessions with her using toys. That way, she knows she is allowed to put her mouth on these, and doesn’t have to earn access to playing with them through nibbling on you. Getting some chewy silicone toys can also help alleviate the discomfort in her gums from her teething. Let us know if you have any more questions!
