Definitely camp for me and Buddy too. It was just brilliant to be back at Forest Edge with two amazing instructors and so many friends. And of course with Buddy and Bert (the Baby Sprocker).
My weekly win!
Sorry it's a bit late, but I wanted to share this with you. Sunday saw the resurrection of our competing with a spot of Arena Eventing. Well it seemed rather fitting for Easter Sunday. We locked and loaded early for a trip to a new venue. I woke with the anxiety heaves. One thing I’ve learned about myself over the years, is that I can get a bit anxious about going to new venues. My Chimp, Bartholomew (cause he's like Bart Simpson only posher) was in full flow. I may be a mindset coach and have a plethora of tools in my kit bag, but I am not immune to pre-competition anxieties. Before I left the house, I took a moment to remind myself of how many different venues I've been to for the first time and how many of them have been brilliant experiences. I grounded myself back into my body and focus on my breath. I told Bartholomew that he had the job of looking after my lorry while I walked the course and competed. That calmed him down too. Like a lot of things, I needn’t have worried. Everyone was very welcoming. There was a water splash and bank too. I was interested to see what Buddy made of them. He stormed through the water and flew up the back with a little encouragement. He paused at the top to admire the view before heading back down. Not our best round as we had 3 poles in the SJ section, but he flew the XC elements. I know I can ride better. Overall, I’m chuffed with how it went. Even more of a surprise to get a placing and an Easter Egg too. The only blip in a good day out was I came home with less than I left. It’s quite a twisty road back, as I came round a rather blind bend to find a couple of motorcyclist close to the white lines. I must have moved over too far as next thing I knew there was a loud bang and the passenger wing mirror was no more… I must had hit something in the verge. Better that than the motorcyclist. I’ve ordered a replacement one. I could have let that overshadow all of the positives from the day, but I didn't. It's an annoyance but doesn't take from a fun day out.

Flipping the narrative
I had two experiences today that I wanted to share with you. Thought they might help people to see that flipping the narrative can really support your growth. The first one was with one of the liveries at the yard I'm on. She had been working on solo hacking. I've been helping her with her confidence. She set off today with determination. She came back deflated as she had set herself the goal of going round the block and didn't get that far. I worked with her on a reframe to focus on how far she did get. We can inadvertently set ourselves up for failure by making the goal too big. She completely ignored all the good things that happened and focused on the fact she didn't achieve the goal. I asked her how she could break the goal down into smaller chunks next time. The brain loves ticking things off, so by making the goals smaller, we become a goal achieving machine! This was reflected in the second experience. I've been meeting up with a good friend to ride out. She wanted to work on cantering in an open space. It's been a while since we met, so when I asked if she wanted to canter, her response was no. So we had several trots. I suggested that if she felt she wanted to canter, to ask her horse. I kept my horse in trot. She had two lovely canters. Cantering was the stretch goal. She was thrilled with what she'd achieved.
